Led the strategic repositioning of a 68-bed long term acute care [LTAC] hospital in a highly competitive market by restructuring the marketing, expanding physician relationships, implementing operational metrics and reducing costs. CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin TX [2005-2009]. Led an 83- bed orthopedic, neurological, and trauma rehabilitation hospital, adding 2 new outpatient pediatric clinics, a Wound Care/Hyperbaric Medicine clinic and “HealthSouth At Home,” a de novo home health agency. Increased marketshare by 11% and beat budget by 37% first year; Improved operating margin to over 30% and improved employee & physician satisfaction scores by 43% in year 2. Won “Most Improved Hospital,” “President’s Circle,” and “Marketing Team of the Year” awards from the HealthSouth leadership. Also served as the interim CEO for HealthSouth Fort Worth during the same period. Grew medical staff to 140 members, expanded orthopedics, cardiology & rehabilitation services while adding new Heart Center, Wound Care Clinic and Women’s Center programs. SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT & CEO of the General Health System, Baton Rouge LA (October 1999-2001) Led strategic planning, business development/marketing, managed care, risk management, pharmacy, DME company & rehabilitation for the 2-campus Baton Rouge General Medical Centers. CEO of their for-profit subsidiaries: Behavioral Health, Inc. (8 psych facilities in TX and LA), General Living Centers, Inc. (4 nursing homes/SNFs), and GHS Home Health Services (2 home health agencies). CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, Charter Cypress Behavioral Healthcare System of Lafayette La. [1995- 1998]: CEO of a for-profit healthcare system consisting of two psychiatric hospitals and four counseling centers; CEO of subsidiary Charter Louisiana, managing eight inpatient geropsychiatric units for HCA hospitals in Louisiana. Increased census by over 19%, while decreasing expenses. ADMINISTRATOR, Specialty Hospitals, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington NC [1987- 1995].
