Over 50 years of solid design experience in: Electromechanical, Hydraulic, and Pneumatic Valves, Pressure Vessels, and Actuators, Environmental Control Systems, Restrictors, Cameras, Advanced Mechanisms, Gears, Aircraft Pilot Controls, and Electric Motors.

CAD Experience: UNIGRAPHICS/NX, CATIA V5

Education: Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa - Aerospace Engineering

Employment:

JPL, Pasadena, CA 6/16-7/20 Unigraphics NX – Design of M2020 Mars Rover, “Perseverance”, Sample Tube Sealing Mechanism, Tube Gripper Mechanism, Tube Drop-off Station and Assembly Fixtures, 1972 Drafting of infra-red camera housing.

Woodward HRT, Pacoima, Duarte, and Santa Clarita, CA 2/15-5/16, 9/12-11/12, 1/11-3/12, 5/08-2/10, 9/04-1/06, 7/00-6/02 (7 years total) Unigraphics – NX Design work on Boeing 777X valves and actuators for thrust reverser system and system test rig. Designed remote controlled tank machine gun mount, electromechanical fuel valves, electromechanical flight control actuators, and natural gas pilot operated shut off valve for electrical power generation plants. As a Quality Engineer reviewed First Article Inspection Reports for conformance to AS 9102.

Parker Fluid Systems, Elyria, OH 11/14-2/15 Catia - Design work on aircraft fuel pump.

Parker Aerospace Fuel and Pneumatics, Irvine, CA 3/10-1/11 Catia - Designed electromechanically actuated fuel valves.

Rockwell Collins, Irvine, CA 1/06-5/08 Unigraphics - Designed pilot controls: gust lock lever, throttle quadrant, sidesticks, and simulated cockpit platform to demonstrate new concept products to customers. Provided solutions to manufacturing and assembly issues for Gulfstream 450/550 pilot control pedestal assembly.

Parker Aerospace, Irvine, CA 7/02-8/04, 10/98-11/99 Catia - Designed electromechanical flight control rotary and linear actuators. Checked drawings. Cost reduction effort on three electromechanical flight control actuators (Global Express, Galaxy, and Embraer 145). Consulted vendors, assembly, and manufacturing personnel to identify relatively costly manufacturing processes, engineering designs, excessively tight tolerances, and drawing errors. Redesigned parts and revised drawings to simplify, correct, and specify less costly processes.

Whittaker Controls, North Hollywood, CA 6/94-10/98 Cadkey - Lead Designer on Boeing’s Joint Strike Fighter project, designed thrust vectoring Roll Valve and Pitch Valve for STOVL operation. Coordinated designs with development team members at co-location meetings with Pratt and Whitney in Palm Beach, FL, and Boeing in Seattle, WA. Designed heat exchanger for commercial helicopter fuel tanks. Designed natural gas pilot operated shut off valve for electrical power generation plants.

Fairchild Controls, div. of Space & Defense, Germantown, MD 10/89-2/94 Unigraphics - Lead designer on STINGRAY (for Bradley Fighting Vehicle) and PATHFINDER (for F-16 and other aircraft) environmental control systems. Used 3D CAD models to create highly compact, lightweight, cost effective design to meet customer requirements within 7 months and establish Fairchild as a recognized competitive supplier to the current ECS market. Interacted with vendors to develop suitable components. Directed drafting effort including checking and approving drawings.

ITT Aerospace Controls, Burbank, CA (6 years total) Designed fast response solenoid valves for PAVEWAY laser guided bomb, F-16 fail safe motor operated butterfly valve, gate, ball, spool and sleeve, manual, solenoid, and motor operated aerospace valves. Interfaced with model shop, manufacturing, assembly, test laboratory, and purchasing.

National Waterlift Company, Kalamazoo, MI (7 months) Designed Fly-By-Wire hydraulic flight control manifold.

Haking Development Corp, Sherman Oaks, CA (17 months) Designed commercial camera mechanisms using small sheet metal and plastic molded parts, with emphasis on cost and producibility.

Rockwell International, Los Angeles Div., El Segundo, CA (3 years) Supervised design effort of 5 engineers as fluid systems design leader on B-1 hydraulic cylinders, restrictors, and valves. Participated in design of B-52 rotary missile launcher and DC-9 hydraulic tubing.
