DUTIES OF A WELDING INSPECTOR

Before Welding

Verifying all relevant documentations, specification, procedures, copies of welders, test certificates

Ensuring correct material type condition, size pipe/plate, correct consumables’ type, condition, size (filler materials, gas inserts), correct equipment, are only used where ever applicable

Making sure that correct preheat is used to release fit up for fabrication and measuring fit up root face, root gap, alignment, and joint cleanness

During Welding

Checking amperage, voltage, polarity, and gas flow rate

Ensuring correct welding technique (welding direction, run sequence) and adequate inter pass temperature

Making sure adequate cleaning between passes and checking root internally (pipes) where access is available

After Welding

Ensuring correct identification and visual inspection of weld area to ensure no ARC strikes, CAP under cuts, surface porosity are present Dimensional verification

NDT coordination as for client/project requirements and interpreting RT films

Checking and reviewing test package documents such as P&ID, pressure test certificate, pre-test check list, blinding log sheets, etc.

Line checking with client representative to prepare punch list and completing all documents to prepare test pack
