2019-Press Gainey Northwell Workforce Engagement Survey results for Lenox Hill Hospital: CTICU(9E)/CTICU Step-down(9L) were 100% Tier 1 under the current nurse leadership team, up from 100% Tier 3 in previous survey under former leadership. RN satisfaction rating for manager: 93rd percentile.
• 100% of current leadership team are new leaders who began in the past 1-2 years.
• Over 40 vacancies were filled in the same calendar year.
• The new hires in 2018-2019 included 11 new graduate RNs – a new initiative for CTICU. 2019-Lenox Hill Hospital recognized by New York State Department of Health for lowest mortality for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery in New York State 2016-2019:

Nurse Manager, Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU Step-Down July 2019-present Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health System
Assume 24-hour accountability and responsibility for management of 12-bed CTICU and 17-bed CTICU step- down unit. Lead the full team (70 RNs, 12 PCAs, 3 PSFs, 4 ANMs) to fulfill mission and vision of the unit, Lenox Hill Hospital, and Northwell Health.
• Strategic management of accomplishing organizational goals, adhering to CNO’s strategic action plan focused on people, quality, and patient experience
• Clinical safety oversight: accountable for safety of patients, patients’ families, and staff through collaboration with entire interdisciplinary team using the Collaborative Care Model as the guiding Professional Practice Model for all patient care
• Administrative functions: oversight and management of safe and appropriate day to day staffing of unit and accomplishment of daily surgery schedule; fostering professional healthcare environment by ensuring compliance with federal regulatory agency standards, federal labor standards and policies of the organization and NYPNU and 1199 unions.

Assisted Nurse manager and rest of nurse leadership team in the overall assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care on 12-bed CTICU and 17-bed CTICU step-down unit.
• ANM role for this unit was 80% clinical and 20% administrative, with shift-specific accountability and responsibility for patient safety, throughput, staffing, and overall operational and crisis management
• Managed primarily the night staff consisting of 35 RNs, 4 PCAs, and 1 PSF; assisted with management of day staff as needed.
• Administrative work primarily consisted of staff scheduling, discipline, payroll management, file management, and management/oversight of staff assignments and setting up the day shift with appropriate staff, and plan for throughput to enable smooth accomplishment of each day’s surgery schedule
• Fostered an environment of collaboration and respect with nurses, physicians, and all other healthcare team members
• Assisted Nurse Manager and Nurse Educator with the hiring, education, and evaluation of nursing staff including over sixty full-time RNs, eight per-diem RNs, a rotating schedule of travel RNs, six PCAs, and 3 PSFs.
NURSING CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Staff Nurse and Charge Nurse, Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU Step-Down May 2015-July 2018 Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health System
Provided nursing care for one or two CTICU patients on a 12-bed CTICU; patient population included cardio- thoracic pre- and post-surgical patients (CABG, aortic dissection repair, AVR, MVR, TAVR, TEVAR, VATS surgeries), CHF patients (acute exacerbation), emergent cardiac and thoracic admissions, and post-surgical re- admissions.
• Provided nursing care for up to five CTICU step-down patients on a 17-bed step-down unit; patient population includes pre- and post-cardiac surgical patients from CTICU with frequent overflow from other telemetry units.
• Rotated from CTICU to CTICU Step-Down every two weeks according to Lenox Hill policy (the two units are considered by Lenox Hill/Northwell to be one unit, with one management team).
• Collaborated with interdisciplinary team members including surgeons, intensivists, physician assistants, social workers, dieticians, respiratory therapists, and physical therapists to develop patient-focused plans of care.
• Established a compassionate and therapeutic environment by providing psychological and emotional support to patients and their families.
CLINICAL SKILLS
Critical care monitoring and intervention implementation of CTICU patients including but not limited to: Arterial lines, central line monitoring (CVP) and dressing care, Swan-Ganz catheter monitoring, IV insertion, phlebotomy, pre- and post-op care, telemetry monitoring, chest tube management and care, tracheostomy and ventilator care, enteral tube use and care, 12-lead placement and interpretation, patient and family education. Cardiac device monitoring and management including but not limited to: Intra-aortic balloon pumps, ECMO, Impella, CVVH, Tandem Heart.
