A parabolic trough collector with a pipe along its focal line ine which the fluid to be heated is passed through.To improve the effectiveness the trough is programmed to rotate about an axis with respect to the motion of sun.The objective of this project is to reduce the electricity requirement for heating and boiling water which accounts to about 30% to 40% of the domestic electricity bills. With reference to the problem statement from Caterpilar,myself along with 3 others designed an alternator combined with flywheel to reduce the transmission losses between alternator and flywheel.We presented this solution in the Caterpilar innovation challange held at IIT Madrass on Jan 2019. Morphological Analysis and Experimental Investigation of Balsa Wood Composite The automotive world moves towards fuel efficiency and reduction in weight.In that case,a floor pan of a car contributes to some extent in the weight of an automobile.So using an alternate material for floor pan with improved strength to weight ratio.The alternate material is a composite material with core material as balsa wood reinforced with carbon fibre and binded with epoxy resin.
