Duties
Register guest and assigns rooms. Accommodates special requests whenever possible
Assists in pre registrations and blocking of rooms for reservations
Thoroughly understand and adheres to proper credit check - cashing and cash handling policies and procedures
Understands room status and room status tracking
Knows room locations, types of rooms available and room rates
Must be sales- minded. Presents options and alternatives to guests and offers assistances in making choices
Uses suggestive selling techniques to sell rooms and to promotes other services of the hotel
Knows the location and types of available rooms as well as the activities and services of the property
Coordinates rooms status updates with the housekeeping departments by notification housekeeping of all checkouts, late checkouts, early check-ins, special requests and day use rooms

Performing cashier related functions like posting charges to guest accounts, raising paid outs etc.

Post additional costs to their room bill on request.
Update guest information on Protel.
Cut guest room keys using Saflok system.
Do pit check and record all discrepancies and rectify where possible.
Check rates and rectify before EOD.
Verify all cashiers and receptionist have closed their cash registers and do manual audit of the cashiers to ensure they balance.
Close restaurant Easipos 499 to balance Z readings (3 Departments: Restaurant and 2 bars).
Ensure they are no arrivals and departures.
Run night button (EOD).
Do the night pack and ensure all required reports are available.
Send reports to relevant persona. (Revenue Report, Hotel Status, Daily Tracker and Posting Report) etc.
Print all registration cards for next day arrivals, do all function boards in the hotel and print shift reports and distribute for relevant departments e.g. Restaurant list and housekeeping list.
Ensure wake up calls are done outstanding ones handed over to early shift.
Do a verbal and written hand over to reception (Early shift) Responsibilities
Ensure excellent service is offered to guest.
Carrying out responsibilities as manager on duty(8-10 staff members)
Deal with complaints, queries, cash ups (banking) and bookings.
Be attentive to detail.
Ensure night operations run smoothly and discrepancies are dealt with in the day.
Create invoice for guest checking out.

I am a self-proclaimed “travel freak,” sport fanatic and overall technology enthusiast. I spend my time researching and learning about new technologies and companies or individuals that are inventing and developing ideas that break boundaries especially in terms of providing quality products and services to consumers in the Travel and Tourism Industry. I am intrigued by the rapid Development of Travel and Tourism in world but especially in Africa, am quite interested in the idea of developing the African continent through the Tourism Industry. I spend my spare time taking photographs and creating video content of destinations in South Africa.
