Removal of toxic heavy metals from aqueous solution using black cumin seeds as low cost adsorbent.

This paper is focussed on removal of Zn(II) ions from synthetic wastewater. The batch scale experiments were conducted to analyse the adsorptive capacity of black cumin seeds. The parameters under study were time, pH, temperature, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration of Zn(II). Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy was used to analyse the decrease in concentration after the effect of above parameters. Black Cumin seeds are activated using conc.sulphuric acid into activated carbon and used as adsorbent. The characteristics of the adsorbent before and after adsorption were studied using EDX,SEM and FTIR. It was observed from the obtained results that black cumin seeds could be fruitfully used as an alternate for removal of toxic heavy metal. PAPER PRESENTATION
