OBJECTIVE: To apply and join the roaster of librarians in enhancing library use to process orders for books/journals ensuring all items are catalogued using the appropriate system.
Lead on student information skill sessions, student induction programmes, guides, displays and other activities associated with promoting the library and its services.
To supervise students and manage behavior in accordance with school policies in both the primary and secondary school libraries.
To collaborate with librarians within the region ensure exchange of good practice.
To supervise the use of library computerized facilities.
To work with teachers to produce a library timetable and assist in lessons as required.
To work with the Literacy coordinators on planning events for World Book Day.
To organize author visits.
To be responsible for library displays and shelving and awareness as a tools in people’s personal growth and development.
To undertake regular stock control.
SUMMARY OF SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
Purpose of the Job
Has the responsibility for the organization and promotion of the school libraries and their service to the school. To ensure timely access to an effective learning resource and information service which supports the learning needs of the full age, ability range and curriculum requirements within the school community
Specific Responsibilities
To prepare a Library Development Plan giving due consideration to the School Development Plan.
In liaison with the school Literacy Coordinators, to promote the development of reading and literacy skills for information and recreation and take the lead in creating a whole school environment that encourages reading for pleasure.
Support students to find information from a variety of sources, both print and electronic, and encourage the use of current and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.
Managing the issuing and returning of the library’s stock.
Responsible for the library budget and where required.
Responsible of all mechanical processing: Duties included cataloging and classification of library materials, book covering, stamping, labeling, indexing journals, accessioning, shelf reading, inventory, lending and returning of books, answering queries and assisting library patrons. I possess good communication and writing skills. Have a familiar with all Microsoft office software.
