March 2020 – Senior Practicum Project
Created and presented a Quality Improvement project on the prevalence of cleaning the High-touch areas of patient rooms n the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology unit. This is known as the “5x5 initiative”. Nursing staff was interviewed regarding their knowledge of the “5x5 initiative” and possible obstacles relative to this specific patient population. A blacklight audit was performed on the unit to identify staff compliance in the “5x5 initiative”. This data was then collected, and suggestions were made and presented to staff in the form of educational pamphlets in hopes of continued education and reinforcement on the unit. Furthermore, this project in its entirety was presented to the senior practicum class and clinical educators.
