WORK EXPERIENCE
CONSULTING HVAC ENGINEER, Arizona City, AZ
Facilities Engineering Technical Specialist, Apr 1999 – Aug 2015 Recently consulted with Lightsense Technology, Inc in the University of Arizona Technical Park in Tucson, AZ. Providing HVAC expertise to market a newly developed wireless CO2 sensor to modulate make up air dampers and forced ventilation exhaust fans with energy conservation as the ultimate goal. BLACK AND VEATCH, Chandler, AZ
Facilities Engineering Technical Specialist, Dec 1998 – Apr 1999
• Design HVAC for the equipment building that housed chillers for Motorola. Also provided cooling to an enclosed pipe chase and ventilation for acid benches and battery charging room. ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL, Newport Beach, CA
Facilities Engineering Technical Specialist, Jan 1991 – Mar 1996
• HVAC system design with respect to clean rooms, fume hoods, scrubbers and silicone wafer fabrication. Design of building mechanical systems, scope job requirements, prepare man hour estimates, determine HVAC systems, prepare basis of design, perform economic analysis, conduct trade off studies, select equipment. Specify boilers, humidifiers, pumps, fans, HEPA and ULPA filters, air handlers and chillers. Size chilled and hot water piping, controls, fume scrubbers and cooling towers. Analyze and determine current energy usage and propose future conservation systems.
E G & G SPECIAL PROJECTS, Las Vegas, NV
HVAC Designer, May 1984 – Jan 1991
• Designed the emergency exhaust system for the TAC hangers that housed the F-117A Stealth Fighter. Converted two 10 million BTU steam boilers to hot water and designed a 3.5 million dollar conversion to hot water with all new Bondstrand pre insulated piping, 100 HP pumps, all new hot water heaters and performed this task totally autonomously, Designed new and retrofitted HVAC systems in Area 51 buildings and associated unusual structures. Performed cooling and heating load calculations to size chillers, pumps, heat exchangers and determined all ductwork, diffuser and RA grille sizes. Wrote a specification for a rotary kiln hazardous waster incinerator. Provided insulation, HVAC and solar heating for an Olympic sized indoor swimming pool. Provided charcoal recirculation system in the bar and recreational areas. Held a Top Secret clearance.
GRUMMAN AEROSPACE, Bethpage, NY
HVAC Designer, Nov 1983 – May 1984
• Design of ventilation system to support the electrical bench testing of computer modules from the A6 Intruder aircraft. These modules included the target recognition attack multisensor that armed the on board weapons systems. Duties included determination of orifice and line sizes, flow characteristics and heat dissipation from electronic components. Wrote specifications for the cleaning of oxygen and helium K bottles to support Naval requirements for ultra high purity gases. Performed troubleshooting of hydraulic system that leak tests the crew cabin of the experimental X-29.
U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, Vandenberg AFB, CA
HVAC Designer, Dec 1981 – Nov 1983
• Represented the Area Resident Engineer in dealing with contractors, manufacturers and suppliers of complex mechanical systems and equipment. Worked at SLC 6, the DOD Space Shuttle launch complex. Performed advisory, consulting and review of mechanical problems in connection with HVAC and humidification systems. Held a Secret clearance. MARTIN MARIETTA AEROSPACE, Vandenberg AFB, CA
HVAC Designer, Feb 1978 – Dec 1981
• Wrote operations and maintenance instructions for the Space Shuttle ground support test and checkout equipment used at V19 and V23 facilities. Designed pneumatic helium systems for valve actuation and purging. I acted as Product Integrity Engineer on all vapor and fire detection systems. Sized piping and calculated flows and identified component hardware within pressurized gas panels that I designed. Prepared vapor migration data and wrote a report on possible contamination of nitrogen tetra oxide. Designed the Firex system in the event of premature main engine shutdown. Held a Secret clearance.
AMERICAN HEAT RECLAIMING CORP, New York, NY
Mechanical Engineer, Feb 1974 – Feb 1978
• After thermal of custom spiral and plate exchangers, I would design covers and check pressure vessel integrity with calculations from ASME Section Vlll, Division 1. Prepared construction details and sent them the manufacturing plant in Lykens, PA. Acted as expeditor between our customers and the manufacturing plant.
GIBBS AND HILL, INC, New York, NY
Nuclear Engineer, May 1972 – Feb 1974
• Used a program called "Cosacks" on the UNIVAC computer to determine the shine (radiation dose) at a mans head level resulting from pipe penetrations, etc that lead to radiation leaking from a high radiation area into a lesser allowed area. Performed drafting of the results on mylar by hand.
