BOF Melter Foreman/Contractor. Responsible for the online maintenance and steel production of 3-305 ton Basic Oxygen Furnaces and meet final ordered chemistry for customer. Work closely with coordinator for the timely delivery of scrap and hot metal, calculate oxygen blow times and proper delivery of alloys and fluxes as required for each heat grade. Oversee scrap yard and condition of rubble pits. Conduct daily tool talks and training of furnace personnel, monitor overtime and call offs. Our shop was responsible for the production of 5.5 million tons per year.

Responsible for 2 EAF furnace operation and pouring operations, gunning of furnaces, relining of refractory in furnaces and ladles. Years of experience left me able to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems with furnaces, mechanical problems with ladles and issues with charging cranes and ladle cranes. 5S trained and fully trained in operation of spectrograph. Retraining of young EAF furnace crews to modern steelmaking practices and CULTURE CHANGE. This team building of furnace crews ultimately led to increased steel production and record setting events in the melt shop. Our team was the go-to turn in order to make tonnage requirements of the day. It was very rewarding to watch young furnace men turn into proficient professional EAF furnace personnel. I also became the melt shop Refractory Supervisor along with my Melt Supervisor turn responsibilities…For the record, I am a proud second generation Melt Shop Melter Foreman.
