To whom it may concern

I am Sandile Masondo and I hope this letter finds you in good health. As a qualified chemical engineer who once worked as a minerals processing engineer for Mintek (provider of minerals processing and metallurgical engineering products and services to industries world-wide) (2015 – 2017) under the Measurement and Control division, I am well positioned to join any team, particularly working with research and development and provides world-class products and solutions to the mining and minerals processing industry. My key areas of expertise include, but are not limited to the following:

• A solid background in the minerals processing industry, specifically comminution and flotation. A sound understanding of gravity concentrators, clarifiers, leaching and electro-recovery processes.

• Extensive research and development (RnD) work done on the above mentioned processes coupled with some modelling and simulations for analysis before performing pilot plant test work.

• Carrying out site audits (plant visits) to keep communicatio n channels open with current and potential clients and proposing scope for new business opportunities within the division (RnD work for feasibility studies for new processes outside the division ’s areas of expertise ).

• Working with advanced process control systems to stabilise and optimise such processes (mineral liberation and beneficiation processes) for clients

(mainly in the platinum group metals and some in the precious metals).

• Manually commissioning and decommissioning of processing systems including piping and fitting, pilot plant hydrocyclones, slurry pumps, surge tanks and control valves to name a few.

As a recent Wits University graduate (2014), I h ave an ability to grow with a job, handle responsibility and build positive relationships with colleagues. I am also comfortable work in g independently and enjoy working as part of a team (the satisfaction gained after the in tegration of different parts of a process/product is motivating). The only downside is the years of experience in the industry which I currently have two years and nine months as a fu ll-time minerals processing engineer, but with the experience that I have, the roles and responsibilities of a process engineer should be readily grasped. I hope that you will look favourably upon my application by recognizing my enthusiasm, talents and my future potential. Lastly, I would dearly welcome a chance to meet to clarify anything if needs be.

Yours sincerely

Sandile Masondo

Work Experience

Mintek (2015 – 2017): Minerals Process ing Engineer The work I did was twofold : first was research and development (RnD) and secondly, commercial work. The RnD aspect entailed researching and coming up with innovative methods/techniques of processing minerals (Gold, PGMs, base metals, industrial metals, rare earth metals, diamonds and so-forth). The main focus of research was in the measurement and control of minerals processes such as Milling, Flotation and Gold Leaching. Some RnD work I have been involved in includes

• testing the effect of hydrocyclone parameters on the hydrocyclon e performance

• testing different sump-hydrocyclone-pump configurations for simulation validation

• performing Bond ball mill work index tests for expressing the resistance of an ore to ball milling and ball mill design (feasibility study purposes)

• pilot plant test work for flotation and flowsheet design

• some minor test work was done on the X-ray Fluorescence sorter to analyse and sort run-of-mine feed

• industrial test work on spiral concentrators (at a PGM processing plant with chrome being the by-product concentrated by spirals)

• conduct feasibility studies for advanced process control of electro-recovery processes

From the research (which include laboratory, pilot plant and industrial testing), advanced process control/measurement solutions are developed for industry application which introduces the second part of my work which is commercial work . The commercial work done includes working with advance process control systems to stabilise and optimise minerals processing processes for clients producing gold, platinum, copper and so-forth. This includes fine-tuning the control system such that the processes can be stabilised and assist in improving the performance of the process (either increase production at minimal cost or producing fine quality products). Processing p lants I have been working with include Northam Booysendal in Mashishing (formly known as Lydenburg) dealing with the processing of UG2 reefs for Platinum Group Metals (PGMs), Pilanesburg Platinum Mine, Bokoni Platinum Mine, Anglo Mogalakwena Platinum Mine just to mention a few. Another p lant is Phalaborwa Mining Company where RnD work was done on some of their copper processing p lants. I have also done work in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the commissioning of a copper plant (run by Metorex, in Kinsenda), where Mintek’s advanced process control system was installed for the f lo tation section of the beneficiaition p lant. Client interaction (customer relationship management) is a critical aspect of the commercial work done as it involves availing oneself for instances were a client requires assistance with our products/services, carrying out plant/site visits to audit client’s and potential client’s plant performance and coming up with possible solutions for them. A site visited included a refinery plant of Implats at Springs (Gauteng, Ekurhuleni),where an audit was carried out of the processing and coming up with better ways of running their plant. Key skills

• Technically sound in research and development for minerals processing and control

• Problem solving and analytical thinking

• Time managemen t

• Project planning

• Communication

• Microsoft Office packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Team player
