Project undertaken (Post-graduation):

Title: Isolation, identification and antibiotic sensitivity pattern of aerobic bacteria from burn wound patient admitted in tertiary care hospital.

Technical Skills Used: Staining techniques, Plating techniques, Biochemical testing, Kirby bauer method of antibiotic testing, ESBL, MBL & AmpC screening test.

Project Description: The study was done to determine the aetiological factor, prevalence of microorganism, antimicrobial susceptibility pattern and emerging nosocomial pathogens and beta-lactamase producer bacteria in burn ward of K.L.E.’s Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Belgaum.

This study established that the nature of microbial wound colonization and flora changes should be taken into consideration in empirical antimicrobial therapy of burned patients. It also showed the nature of resistance and susceptibility towards the antibiotics by the isolates.
