Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to you to apply for a position in your company. I have been studying within the Faculty of Humanities, majoring in International Relations, Social Development and Gender Studies as part of my undergraduate degree. It was then within my interest to pursue my post graduate degree specialising in Social Development at the University of Cape Town. As a Social Development Practitioner, I would love an opportunity to learn and gain experience within the industry. My studies has provided me with the various theoretical skills of understanding the way in which the world works thorough the lenses of seeking social welfare for the most vulnerable. By doing so I have gained knowledge that planning for change is essential for goals to be achieved to improve the wellbeing of society. Taking into account the fact that social ills prevent growth, this needs to be critically analysed through planned change to break down structural hindrances and ensure economic growth and social transformation. It is therefore important to note that this growth could be accomplished only through the link between social development of effective social policies and effective economic policies through economic development. A position in this company would provide me with the opportunity to learn and gain practical experience and I would do my best to make myself an asset to the company.

Although I do not have any work experience within my field because I was focused on graduating, one thing I can take from this is that I put all my time and energy in focusing on the things I want to achieve. To me I would believe that I am a hardworking person that enjoys a challenge. I handle pressure very well and have a good judgement where prioritizing is concerned. I have a good sense of accountability and responsibility. As an academic I have learnt many good communication skills, not only technically but soft skills as well which have helped me to communicate within a professional environment and deal with different people. I do however tend to place a lot of pressure on myself to get the job done because I don’t believe that giving up should be an option.

My current position as an academic has taught me valuable professional skills. Through my social development major I am able to demonstrate an understanding of the South African development context in relation to regional and international dimensions of social and economic development. To understand how social policy and economic policy can be harmonised for overall national and regional development purposes. I understand how social and economic development are expressed in macro and micro policy frameworks and intervention I have the ability to reflect on empowerment within the context of community and social development. Deepened understanding of social and economic development in Southern Africa. Most importantly I understand the personal challenges that social development professionals face. I am confident that my skills are suitable for this position and I am keen on learning new skills as well as expanding my knowledge to become an asset to your company. I look forward to an opportunity on the above position. I can be contacted at any time on 066*******.

Kind Regards

Kaelyn Dyson
