Volunteer Experience

ADVANCED FACILITY FOR AVIAN RESEARCH, WESTERN UNIVERSITY. — 2019-PRESENT In Dr. Scott MacDougall-Shackleton’s lab through over 80 hours of live bird care I perform health checks, feed, and help maintain clean conditions for the birds. I gained field experience in live bird capture, banding, and blood sampling at Port Rowan Wetlands in Long Point Provincial Park in 2019. DR. BRANFIREUN’S LAB IN THE BIOTRON INSTITUTE FOR EXPERIMENTAL CLIMATE CHANGE RESEARCH, WESTERN UNIVERSITY. — 2017-2019

I participate in lab research and operations meetings weekly. I assist with graduate student lab experiment set-up, process, and clean-up, and also with general lab maintenance and inventory. PANELIST, MENTOR AT WOMEN IN SCIENCE STEMPOSIUM, WESTERN UNIVERSITY — 2018, 2019 I served as a panelist representing the department of biology to prospective science students, answering questions and sharing experience. I later served as a group mentor to middle school and high school students again answering questions and sharing my own experience about university and science.

CHRISTIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION LEADER, SIR FREDERICK BANTING S.S. — 2016 The Christian Student Association held many discussions, and interactive meetings, and activities. I helped establish and co-lead the association. I collaborated with others in the planning of meetings and activities, and the development of thoughtful discussion. AD HOC TEAM (2013), KITCHEN CREW (2014), WILDCARD, SIR FREDERICK BANTING S.S. — 2013, 2014 Wildcard is an over-night student experience to aid grade eight students in their transition to high school. As a part of the Ad Hoc crew, I helped clean up delegate locations, worked with others in running activities for the delegates, and engaged with and answered questions from students. As a part of the Kitchen crew, I helped in the preparation and clean up of each meal, and worked and communicated with others to complete tasks.
