EDUCATION

Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology – Design (Fast Track) Centennial College – Progress Campus Jan 2020 – 2021 B.Sc.(hons.) in Mechanical Engineering, Second Class Upper Division (CGPA 3.48) University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka Dec 2018

(Washington Accord Accredited)

Placed in Dean’s List in semesters – 6 and 8

(An undergraduate should possess a minimum GPA of 3.8 to be included in dean’s list) UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECTS

Comparison of the performance of Thermo-Electric Generators (TEGs) for different cooling techniques: Engine coolant Vs. Heat pipes - 2018

• TEGs were designed and fabricated with integrating to an automobile muffler to reduce the backpressure that can be caused by an external TEG unit.

• TEGs were modelled and simulated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software as a conjugate heat transfer problem consisting muffler and exhaust line body, TEGs with two proposed cooling techniques.

• Behavior and power generation of TEG is mathematically modelled by defining User Defined Functions (UDFs) in C language.

• Results were validated against the experimental results obtained from test rig and a sensitivity and parametric study of TEG was carried out to identify the optimum cooling technique.

CFD Analysis and Simulation of Free surface soil erosion on downstream banks of Randenigala Dam, Sri Lanka - 2018

• Randenigala Dam was modelled and simulated as a transient-multiphase-Volume of Fluid problem to analyze the critical areas of downstream banks which are under soil erosion.

Numerical and CFD Analysis of a Rotary Thermal Wheel - 2018

• A rotary thermal wheel was designed to recover 30kW of energy from an Air Conditioning-Air Handling Unit. Results were validated and compared with numerically obtained results.

Design of an Air Conditioning System - 2018

• Air Conditioning System was designed for department staff common room with conducting a Cooling Load Calculation to ASHRAE standards and validated the results with a CFD simulation.

Design and Manufacturing of a Prawn Paddle Wheel Machinery - 2017

• This was based on providing Oxygen for prawns in prawn farms by coupling an engine with paddle wheels while identifying speed reduction methods, power transmission methods and implementing a clutch for a convenient operation. Design of Concrete Cutter Machine - 2017

• A concrete cutter machine was designed and modelled to be coupled with Honda GX390 engine which has the capability to use 14” to 20” diameter cutting blades for construction purposes.

Design of Scissor Lifting Machine - 2017

• A Scissor Lifting Machine was designed which can be operated 100% manually to lift a load of 200kgs in order to reduce the labor requirement to lift heavy loaded machines and equipment.

Design of Plastic Bottle – Crushing and Cutting Machine - 2017

• A machine was designed to reduce the storage of plastic wastage, especially PET

(polyethylene terephthalate) products such as plastic bottles. The design consisted with a crusher unit, shredder unit, two chain drives, a gearbox, a V-belt drive and a Honda GX390 engine as the prime mover.
