Identified cost effective recipes containing 100% of natural, bio-based and biodegradable ingredients

yielding potential

savings of 63% compared to the current bromelain supplement products that are available in the market

today.

Designed an experimental procedure to determine the chemical and physical properties of the pineapple

biomass that

is used to make bromelain.

Investigated the extraction of bromelain from pineapple stem and leaves using gelatin as an analytical

method to obtain a high purity.

Proposed a future bio-based, biodegradable, compostable and recyclable spoon to be able to diminish

pollution, decrease animal

death in oceans and other environments and to have the ability to biodegrade 200 times faster than

current plastic spoons.

Performed experiments that involved injection molding and stress tests to find alternatives for flatware in

combatting the

plastic waste challenge in reducing future costs from cleanup. Established a protocol to evaluate and select sustainable alternatives for the replacement of synthetic,

non-biodegradable
