AERO-STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF UNGUIDED ARTILLERY ROCKET was carried out in Armament Research and Development Establishment, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Pune.
The objective of this project is to study the necessity and importance of Artillery Rockets in defence, its principle of operation, aerodynamic and flight dynamic characteristics, structural properties and design features.
These involve estimation of the aerodynamic loads acting on an unguided artillery rocket and ascertain the strength of the aero-structure. Structural & Modal Analysis of the complete rocket under the presence of aerodynamic loads was carried out using a commercial FEM based solver.
The maximum deflection of a single fin in the presence of aerodynamic loads, considering it as a cantilever beam was also computed using the FEM Solver.
An outcome of this work, a software tool was developed to estimate the stability characteristics of the rocket and the aerodynamic loads acting on its components. A software tool to compute the different mode frequencies and mode shape of the rocket under free vibration considering it as a free-free beam was also developed. Generation of these Matlab based software tools reduced the computation time significantly,
The conventional procedure involves tedious and lengthy calculations. This project work had given us a deep insight in the understanding of the aerodynamic loads and their interaction and impact on the structural design of an unguided artillery rocket. ARDE (DRDO), PUNE.
