Biography
As a native of Chicago's South Side, Anthony grew up in the middle-class African American neighborhood of Chatham. His parents held respected roles in the federal government and raised three sons in a supportive environment. After completing his education in the Chicago Public Schools, Anthony pursued a degree in architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Upon returning to Chicago as a professional, he gained valuable skills and organizational expertise in architecture, engineering, and manufacturing. Anthony furthered his education at Keller Graduate School of Management, where he earned a dual Master’s degree in Business Administration and Project Management.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Anthony has explored his passions in creative graphic design, strategic marketing, nonprofit consulting, performing and visual arts theater management, digital DJ entertainment, and faith formation as an ELCA youth worker. Now, he shares his life with his wife, the Reverend Priscilla Paris-Austin, as they steward their three, wonderfully talented, adult children in their communities of Bellevue, Redmond and Renton, Washington.

Diversity Statement
I would be pleased to discuss my commitment to diversity with you. As a strong advocate for diversity and equal rights, I grew up on the South Side of Chicago during the Civil Rights Era. My parents instilled in our African American family the respect and appreciation of the rich cultural diversity found within the multi-racial communities of Chicago, including Jewish, Polish, Irish, Italian, Mexican, Latino, Chinese, and Asian cultures – among others. My brothers and I were fortunate to attend out-of-state colleges; and we returned to our neighborhood, where we shared our knowledge and education through youth church programs, community centers, high schools, local colleges, and park districts. My faith has fostered a deep understanding of equity and inclusion for all, particularly regarding economic and educational disparities. Many culturally diverse individuals face significant barriers when accessing higher education, even as U.S. citizens. Immigrant families often encounter limited job opportunities and unfair wages. As a compassionate society, we must embrace individuals with varying abilities, including those across the spectrum of gender identity and sexual orientation, as well as people with physical disabilities, recognizing them as valued and equal members of our community.
I believe U.S. organizations should actively welcome individuals with autism, providing them with education, training, and the necessary tools for economic success. I have offered ethics-based guidance to various organizations in the Eastside and Southeast communities of the region, and I am eager to utilize my skills and education to enhance socio-economic opportunities within the communities of Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Renton and Kent.
Sincerely,
Anthony Austin MBA
