Professional Experience

Design Engineer Intern

Hero Honda Two wheelers September 2013 – May 2014

Contributed to designing and optimizing camshaft model in Splendor 2013 using PTC Creo, NX and Ansys.

Developed a completely new design and model of camshaft.

Using PTC Creo and Unigraphics NX for solid modelling and Ansys for analysis, we were able to identify the hot-spots where the shaft experienced bending forces.

Conducted modal and static structural, dynamic stress analysis and fatigue, life cycle analysis on the new design using Ansys.

Reduced the model weight while increasing its strength and life cycles.

Redesigned Cylinder head assembly, Cylinder Block Engine cooling systems such as radiators, water/coolant lines, starter motors, intake manifold, exhaust manifold housing based on the previous model to accommodate the new camshaft design.

Experience with engine mounting, starter motors, transmission system installation for testing performance characteristics.

Maintained BOMs

By applying APQP and DFMEA techniques improved the cam shaft design.

Intern as Fuel Systems Maintenance Engineer April 2013 – September 2013

South Central Railway, Hyderabad, India

Worked as a maintenance engineer for testing turbochargers in hybrid locomotive diesel engines.

In collaboration with a team of chief engineers on site and Bosch, developed an efficient method for conducting tests and solving technical issues caused due to carbon residue blocking the waste-gate and waste-gate solenoid malfunction.

Experience with working on fixed variable and bi-turbos, ECDT (engine control diagnostic tools), Engine Installation, installing intake and exhaust manifolds, turbo accessory breakdown and re assembly.

Solved multiple simultaneous projects related to overheating and malfunctioning of inter-cooler, turbine malfunctions on long distance heavy duty diesel engine locomotives.

Created a custom maintenance schedule for certain old model diesel locomotives such as WDG 3 series, which included vendor coordination, part change log, service log, Bills of Materials (BOM).

Suggested and implemented upgrades for WDG 3 locomotives for improved efficiency.

Mostly worked on high speed diesel engines such as WDG 4, WDG 3B, WDG 5, WCM 6.

Academic Research and Projects

Design of Electric Air Compressor Subassembly

Designed and Assembled an electric air compressor using NX.

Designed subassembly parts that include Piston, Cylinder block, tank, Cylinder head, Intake and exhaust valves, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, Rotary Vane Pump, Diffuser, Pressure gauge etc.

Assembled the above designed parts into a complete air-compressor system.

Design and Analysis of Kaplan Turbine

Using ProE-Wildfire designed a Kaplan Turbine.

Ran Stress and static Analysis on Kaplan Turbine using Hypermesh.

Optimized Design based on results achieved from simulation run on Hypermesh.

Design and Analysis of Crankshaft

Designed a 3D model of a crankshaft in NX.

Performed structural stress and fatigue analysis using Ansys for identifying the week spots.

Based on the analysis, iterated the design until a satiable stress analysis results were achieved.

Design of vibration isolation base/platform for an IC engine

Considered a real-time problem of vibration issues in a backup generator powered by an IC engine.

Calculated the parameters needed to isolate and dampen the vibrations from the generator.

Ran simulations on MATLAB for different types of materials and fixtures that can be used to effectively dampen the vibrations without damaging the generator and its surroundings.

Designed an isolation base and dampers using CATIA.

3D printed and programmed a 4-link robotic arm

Using Wanho Duplicator i3 3D printer and Slic3d as slicing software two robotic arm links were printed that were 3D modelled in Creo and solidworks and later assembled as two identical robotic arms.

Used potentiometers in one arm for input and servos in other for movement.

Using Arduino micro as micro controller, programmed one arm to mimic the exact motion and position of the other.
