Profile

My career began as a Trainee Radio Operator with the ONGC (Oil& Natural Gas commission) base stations M1 and M3 at Chennai, in the year 1989.

Started my sea career in the year 1990, sailed as a Radio Officer from 1990 to 1995, during which time have worked in dual posts as Radio Operator and Junior Navigating Officer, attending to Radio Communication and Navigation. From 1996 to 2015 Sailed as a 3rd Navigating Officer, 2nd Navigating Officer, Chief Officer on General cargo ships, container Feeder, Offshore vessels, Tug boats engaged in towing operations, crew boats engaged in Personnel transfers in Mumbai High Oil field.

1992 to 1993 - Served on American Land Rig ( Penrod 122 ) owned by Penrod Drilling. USA, on ARCO charter in Dubai onshore oil fields Margam Oil field and as a Radio Operator and an Administrator, Keeping track of all personnel on a daily basis, logical support to base office on crew change, Catering, drilling requirements on the orders of the Company man / Tool pusher.

Was employed in the United Arab Emirates – Sharjah to a sister concern of Radio Holland, Delmon Electronics to serve as a Salesman / Technician mainly dealing with repairs and installations of Navigational and Radio equipments on board vessels calling into the ports of UAE.

2008 to 2017 have sailed as a Radio Officer, Administrator on DP 2 Diving support vessel (DSV), DP2 Platform Support vessels (PSV) as a 2nd Officer / Trainee DPO. Completed DP2 sea time, awaiting certificate from the UK. On completion of Dynamic position Basic and Advanced courses have served onboard DP2 Platform Support vessels as 2nd Officer / NWKO. Have worked on Kongsberg KPOS 21 and 8.1.3 DP2 and SDP521 systems, with associated position fixing systems using Subscribed DGPS, Laser based cyscan and Fan beam systems

2006 to date - Working in the Offshore Industry, in the marine field, with Fugro Survey India ltd, wide knowledge of offshore operations involving oceanographic survey operations, consisting of CP surveys, Pipe line surveys, 3D side scan sonar, and other instruments used for making sea bed profile, coring survey. In the Offshore industry familiar with Personnel and material transfers, towing operations. Having served as a Navigator, wide knowledge of ship board operations and manuevering of twin screw vessels to a certain extent CPP and Azimuth propulsion. Familiar with many Terms, equipments, chemicals, and other various materials used in the offshore industry. The means and methods used for safe handling of cargo widely used in the offshore industry. Safety procedures for various jobs to be undertaken Hot/Cold works, procedures, RISK assessments. Conducting safety meetings and safety drills and situation awareness.

Certified as Navigational watch keeping Officer (NCV) from Indian in 2002, Certified from the UK as a Officer of the watch Unlimited ( equal to a 2nd mate FG in 2013) . Certificate of Proficiency as a Radio Operator, with (RTG) Radio Telephony General License (1998) and a Indian GMDSS ( (2000) & UK GMDSS operators certificate ( 2013). Now with Unlimited DP full certificate.

Amateur radio being my hobby I have my amateur radio call sign VU2JPT, being an electronic Enthusiast, I construct, trouble shoot, electronic equipment’s.

Presently serving on board on Board DP 2 Diving Support Vessel (DSV), handling of Radio communication with base stations, other offshore boats & platforms, Helicopter operations and communications (crew change chopper), assisting Logistics in support for crew change planning.

Very Familiar with many satellite equipments Inmarsat A,B,C, Mini M, Fleet broadband, testing of equipments, selection of various satellite for various purposes and other equipments required for Emergency. Various computer based PMS (Planned maintenance systems), having served on board many ships familiar with Radio Surveys, and Audits and documentation required for the same.

Having served at sea from 1990 till date, have the leadership skills and the ability to be a good leader to impart knowledge, training and skills to fellow workers, since been on different ships of different companies, with multinational crew and various working cultures.

Having worked in different places and different environments, At sea as well as Shore based, willing to work anywhere, flexibility of Long and short working durations and contracts. Wide knowledge in the use of computer Software ( MS office etc ) and Hardware ( assembling of a complete PC), and other software related programs.
