We’re Tony and Joann Kemp, the husband and wife music team, Southern Silk Duo.
The 2 of us perform "live" music with vocals and guitar. We are professional, mature, love music, appreciate the audience, and maintain excellence and respect as our standard.
We're diversified and perform all styles of music, but R&B is our main forte. Flavors of jazz, contemporary, soul, old school, country, Motown, comedy and anything in between, as long as it's good, and it's what people want. We never limit the music or ourselves. We adjust the energy of the venue or for the occasion of performance. From the softness of accompanying dinner or brunch, to the wild after rock concert crowd, we relate to the people. Guest requests are usually welcome. Sometimes we surprise people with our sound, because there are only 2 of us. Our audience response is wonderful. It is our privilege and a gift to have the ability to relate to people and to love. We are truly grateful to be married and performing together for over 20 years and show love as much possible during any performance.
We supply our own sound equipment and provide excellent references. We also consult, collaborate, write, have worked and been featured on many artists work in background vocals and guitar. We both agree that working in the studio is a much different energy and a very pleasant experience. In any setting, there’s always a new discovery or lesson. We had 2 songs released by jazz artist Maysa in Nov. 2012. Motions of Love, the title song, went to # 1 on jazz charts, 8 on R&B and 1 in the UK.
We've successfully performed from being the first legal street performers in Charlotte, N.C. to relocating and becoming regulars at the Biltmore Farms & Estate in Asheville, N.C.
Live performances in Charlotte include performances at Big Bens’ English Pub, Props, Ballantyne Resort, Currents Rest, the North Harbor Club and Outerbounds Sports Rest, and honored to performs for the John Tosco Music party and New Years Eve Celebration at Spirit Square, functions for the Charlotte Volunteer Police, private parties and events and worked with the Charlotte Center City Partners.
Southern Silk had the pleasure of opening for, Al Stewart, The Uppity Blues Women and other major acts. Performed at The Sylvia Theater, Spirit Square and the Belk
Theater. Featured act on TV shows “The Crowes Nest” and “The Poetry Porch.
Asheville performances include the Biltmore Estate and Farms, The Asheville Arts Alliance, The Gateway Club, The White Horse Concert venue, Vincenzo’s, StoveTrotters, Black Forest, and many other fine restaurants, and featured on “The Dale Joiner Show”.

Southern Silk is a husband-and-wife duo whose interpretive jazz and contemporary pop music offers a memorable musical journey through the smooth sounds of favorite songs and performers. Tony Kemp likes to cover such balladeers as Nat King Cole, James Taylor, George Benson, Stevie Wonder, and Elvis Presley while Joanne’s voice can recall the silky, sultry voices of Diana Washington, Billie Holiday, Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack, and Gladys Knight.
Through live performances and recordings, they reach a broad fan base with audiences ranging over every ethnic and racial background. “Babies to 105 five years old are the core of our audience,” says Joann, “but younger people still get happy and dance!” The pair
has proved through years of performing that “music should make you feel good, want to dance, want to love, want to relax, and enjoy some awesome entertainment”. This is an obvious fact. Southern Silk has been performing together professionally
for nearly two decades. Their understanding of song, their deliverance, and their versatility is amazing. Southern Silk Duo, Tony and Joann Kemp, have captured the essence of

Truly creative, artistic, and talented. 2 married people with a phenomenal presence, who sing from the soul and heart with love. They know each other and they make it fun. When not singing, they still hold your attention. They leave you with a new, but somehow very familiar experience of happiness and love, and even peace.
Southern Silk also has tremendous songwriting gifts experience on three original sound tracks on their CD, which is a sampling of their originals and three remakes that are audience favorites.

Southern Silk is a duo that is positioned to explode on the awaiting and reawakening soul music market to recapture the almost forgotten, essence of silky soul.
Since the loss of many R&B greats, there has been a gaping hole in the smooth & silky sounds of R&B. Until Now!
