Work Experience

Spectrum Lighting Fall River, MA

Product Design Engineer November 2013 to Present

Develop new light fixture by creating and documenting sheet metal parts, aluminum spinnings, and other materials using SolidWorks.

Developed luminaires that use a variety of lamping such as Incandescent, Compact florescent, HIDs and LEDs.

Retrofit old designs with new LED technologies.

Manage day-to-day ordering of parts, create Bills of Materials, and provide technical support to sales, contractors and everywhere in between.

Communicate with production, customer service and sales in order to satisfy customer needs. Day-O-Lite Manufacturing Warwick, RI

Design Engineer – Solid State Lighting October 2012 to August 2013

Retrofitted entire fluorescent luminaire product line into more efficient LED versions.

Designed sheet metal parts and produced submittal drawings for customers with use of AutoCad 3D.

Programmed sequences for CNC turret punch presses with Striker Systems Sheet Metal CAM software.

Calculated photometrics in order to simulate light output and energy efficiency of fixtures using Photopia.

Compiled Bills of Materials and generated job orders for fabrication using Made2Manage ERP. University of Rochester Rochester, NY

Xerox Engineering Research Fellow Summer 2011

Researched and fabricated different catalysts for PEM fuel cells in the pursuit of minimizing the percentage of platinum used while maximizing reactivity of the compound.

Catalysts were created using the electrospinning method and later studied under a Scanning Electron mi croscope.

Publicized results in academic paper and presented knowledge in research seminar at the end of the program. Education

University of Rochester Rochester, NY

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) May 2012

Passed Fundamental of Engineering Examination (Certified Engineer in Training) – New York, April 2012

Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) Selected Mechanical Engineering Courses and Projects Introduction to Robust Design and Quality Engineering, Advanced Mechanical Design, Basic Mechanical Fabrication, Mechanical Systems, Solids & Materials Laboratory, Heat Power Applications, Heat Transfer, Fluid & Thermal Engineering Laboratory, Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Computational Methods, Materials Science. Loading Fixture for Testing Edge Bending Modulus of Rupture of Thin Glass Plates Spring 2012

Collaborated to design a testing fixture that uses 4-point bending to determine the strength of the edges of glass screens

(glass microscope slides, iPhone screens, etc.).

Ran finite element analysis of a glass microscope slide undergoing a 4-point bending test; the simulation enabled the design of an accurate and precise testing apparatus.

Produced engineering drawings of the apparatus for fabrication of the prototype by the University machine shop. Thermal Management of an Avionics Box Spring 2011

Cooperated to design a thermal management system for an avionics box which housed the flight system for a space shuttle.

Evaluated proficiency of system's ability to dissipate by conduction through the material and forced convection of a cooling gas.

Researched and communicated with vendors to find the most cost effective materials that met performance requirements.

Team had to take into account what materials to use for the thermal mass and the cooling gas; High performance design with weight and cost kept in mind.

Additional Qualifications

Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish and capacity to use bilingual abilities in engineering and manufacturing settings.

Research, data collection, data analysis, and documentation abilities revealed via various projects throughout college career.
