ALLTEC, LLC – Canton/Asheville, NC

Manufacturer of custom engineered products and systems including lightning protection, surge protection, grounding, and power quality products and services

Mechanical Designer, 10/2015 – 06/2016

Reason for Leaving: Layoff Companies Growth Prospects are Poor

Create CAD models and drawings for detail components, subassemblies and assemblies used in Surge Protection Devices used in many electrical and electronic equipment. Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering change notices (ECNs), resolve technical design challenges, and help plan projects and design approaches.

Project Highlights:

Design Project Management: Integral Member with all phases of the design process (from concept through prototype and UL 1449 testing and acceptance, manufacturing and production) completed 100% of assigned projects within budgetary, schedule, weight and cost constraints.

Device Structures: Served as lead or participating mechanical designer on dozens of device structures and injection molding designs for all surge protection devices manufactured in house or out sourced through approved vendors, and assembly fixture solutions.

Electronic PCB Design: Assisted senior Electrical designer on five designs for major city and metropolitan districts looking for a submersible design for street lighting installed at or below water level, with personal efforts cited as “…instrumental to the success of this high-priority initiative” by supervisor.

Quality Assurance: Assessed buildability, manufacturability and integration capability of designed components in partnership with Lead Electronic Technicians to ensure optimal quality of all deliverables.

MTI Corporation / MTI Medical Cables, INC Mills River, NC

Engineering Manager, 9/2013 to 7/2015

Reason for Leaving: MTI Corporation was acquired by American Biosurgical on 02/2015 and restructured which the Engineering department was outsourced to their China facility.

Hired as an Engineering Manager to serve as the replacement to an integral member of team who was retiring. Duties included developing innovative medical-device components and assemblies. Handle new product concept development, design, testing and simulation modeling to support the manufacture of next-generation medical and surgical cabling solutions complying with federal regulations and customer stringent quality standards.

Project Highlights:

Reusable cables for single customer: Served as design lead on multiple use patient monitoring cable for a specific customer where they wanted a second supplier of the cables and (generating up to $1M for MTI Corporation). The cables were accepted, tested and now are in production saving the customer over 15% or more in cost reduction by MTI supplying the same cables and connectors at a lower cost.

Surgical Instruments: Led changes in the production of disposable surgical cable by redesigning and changing molding tools and procedures to reduce scrap and reduced assembly times reducing cost by more than 5%.

Reusable cables for varying customers: Led redesign and CAD modeling of existing plastic injection molding tools for customer specific parts to have better more reliable detailed 3D models and dimensional drawings for molding tooling for faster turnaround when needing repair or replacement minimizing the downtime for customer’s specialized connectors.

Assisted in all phases of the product-development lifecycle, from conceptualizing new product ideas through sketching, creating models, developing engineering designs, prototyping, testing, supporting production and rolling out new and improved products.

Served on team that introduced new or enhanced existing products in the following categories: Blood pressure monitoring, Electro Surgery, Nuclear Medicine, Pulse Oximetry, Fetus & Infant Care, Dialysis, Cardiac Therapy, Bionics, Optical Enhancement, Endoscopy, Monitoring Telemetry, Equipment Harnessing, Ultrasound, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Temperature Monitoring medical devices

Conduct modeling, simulation and analysis of structural components using CAD techniques, Creo Elements/Pro.

Non-Medical Project Highlights:

Customer computer Interfaces: Participated in the design and prototyping of patent-pending intricate wiring harnesses for power, instrumentation, and sound components that are predicted to revolutionize the industry through highly detailed computer interfaces for customers that can be implemented by retail stores of all types at a fraction of the prior delivery costs.
