Doctoral Thesis “Cow’s Milk Proteins Allergy in Infants in Dominican Republic”

The study, funded by Pharmacia Corporation of Sweden, makers of RAST,was the first study in Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, in scope and length. Antibodies to three proteins of cow’s milk: casein, beta-lacto globulin and alpha-lactalbumin were detected in the serum of 40 infants three month old to one year old, using the RAST Technique; the antibody levels were then correlated to the clinical findings. The study was presented and considered outstanding by the Directive Boards of two Symposia: Tenth American Congress of Pediatrics held at Santo Domingo in 1984 World Pediatrics Congress held at La Habana, Cuba in 1984.
