Consulting Expertise Summary: Bret A. Fisk, P.E. (LTC – Automation & Control Engineering) has been a significant contributor to automation strategic initiatives since joining the company as a M.S. Electrical Engineering graduate of the University of Michigan in 1981. His worldwide design consulting assignments include the new Humalog production site in Puerto Rico; the U.S. Xigris production facility; the Fegersheim Humulin cartridge filling facility; the U.S. Humulin production facilities; the Speke BST production facility; the Kinsale Fluoxetine production facility; the U.S. Capsule Operations automation project; and four U.S. fermentation pilot plant projects. Bret also led the development of the Rockwell Automation Alliance; process instrumentation strategic sourcing and standardization; the development of automation knowledge management; and the development/application of Smart Plant Instrumentation. He has been an active member of JETT, ISPE and ISA. Currently, Bret is a QA consultant for Lilly manufacturing facilities in Indianapolis.

Bret combines his automation technical expertise, team leadership skills, and general business understanding to significantly effect the automation discipline direction across the corporation. Bret has a very good relationship with his peers in and outside the company. He is leading industry with his innovative efforts with: Process Instrumentation Strategic Sourcing and Standardization; the JETT Consortium; and the application of Smart Plant Instrumentation. Established Rockwell Automation Alliance (considered to be Lilly’s most successful automation alliance)

Led U.S. Team in selecting and starting up our integrated sourcing agreement with Process Automation Sourcing Solutions, consolidating over 150 supply channels, reduces procurement process by 50%, and provides a channel to control stds.

Led U.S. Team in establishing process instrumentation standards for the corporation which are rapidly becoming global stds.

Led the Automation Discipline’s migration to the WELL (for the management of technical discussion & knowledge). Recruited, trained, & mentored section leaders on the use of the WELL.

Membership Chair, Financial Chair, and scheduler for JETT (GAMP Special Interest Group focused on improving industry validation practices for package systems). Co-Led Team in Developing C4I business process for managing design development for major capital projects ($10 to $500M). Process has been institutionalized by the whole division and is being applied to all projects.

Developed the vision for the Automation Strategy & Staffing Plan for PM30, a new chemical manufacturing facility for Atomoxetine (Stratera). Led the PM30 Automation project team.

Drove the vision and the development of Lilly’s new Life Cycle Asset Management System. This implementation is leading the industry in integrating and validating several isolated I.T. business processes associated with managing manufacturing assets.

Drove the creation of BHI Emergency Action System Loop drawings utilizing Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI). Trained additional users on SPI in the process.

Led the SPI loop drawing design for a site utilities PLC platform upgrade. Trained new SPI users on the project through design workshops.

Led the development of multiple Sustainability and Electrification Proposals for the Lilly Facilities, Sales Fleet, and Shuttle service.
