Work Experience
Diesel Locomotives, South Central Railway, (Internship) May 2014 -
Aug 2014
Worked on Woodward hydraulic-mechanical governors that provide reliable and
precise control of engine speed and output in virtually every type of
engine application. Available in work output ratings from 10.8 inch-pounds
up to 500 foot-pounds, Woodward governors are used in power generation,
marine, pump, compression, and vehicle applications.
Win Will Technologies, India Aug 2014 to May2015
Part time instructor: Pro-ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0
Design and development of parking brake (Pro-E): Designed parking brake for
electric car. Changed the traditional lever type brake system to a push and
pull type system. Project involved designing several many concepts. Did
interference check and tolerance stack up analysis for components and
assemblies. The entire design was done using Pro-Engineer.
Body stiffness analysis (FEA) of an automobile structure (Body in White,
BIW)
. Performed static analysis on the automobile body and reviewed
displacements, stresses and strains. In sections, where the stresses were
higher than allowable, mass changes were considered and added new members
to increase the stiffness, as thickness changes were not allowed. Studied
the effects of changes in bending and torsional stiffness under repeated
cyclic loads on mild steel body.
. Analyzed durability of mild steel component under repeated loading. Used
rain flow method for cycle counting. Estimated overall life of the
component by using Miner's linear damage rule for calculating damage from
each cycle. Estimated Stress Intensity Factor (Ki) using FEA and compared
with the value using Hartsman-Schijve's equation to check cyclic-fatigue
growth rate.
Orient Cement Company (Paper & Industries Limited), May 2015 - Dec 2015
Assistant Engineer, Mechanical Department
. Interpreted the General Arrangement (G.A.) drawings and Part drawings.
. Converted the old G.A. drawings into AutoCAD drawing records.
Other CAD Projects:
Designed mechanical elements like bearings, axles, etc. using Autodesk
Inventor (3D) and created drawings for them.
Created layouts of Kent state university power plant (Under Prof:
Keshwardhan Metta, Kent state university).
CFD Analysis Experience:
. Aerodynamic trailer device for drag reduction using CFD software:
Analyzed pressure drag and friction drag forces with respect to
tractor-trailer gap, undercarriage, rear of the trailer etc. Initial
CAD models were done in PRO-E, then imported to ANSYS for finer
meshing and simulation. A trailer slant device was added on the top
with a yaw angle. Performed CFD simulation for different yaw angles (2
o to 5o) and calculated the drag. Concluded that aerodynamic trailer
devices reduce drag and it resulted in lower fuel consumption.
. CFD analysis of nozzles and valves: Performed CFD analysis for various
nozzles (converging, diverging and converging-diverging) using
Autodesk CFD Analysis module. Focus was increasing kinetic energy.
Assigned materials or fluid properties, boundary conditions, inlet
flow and estimated outlet velocities. Converging can be used as
diverging nozzle too by interpreting the boundary conditions. For the
valves, checked the back pressure created when valves are closed, and
estimated the pressure released when opening the valves.
. Solar Panels: Modeled solar panels as a plate, assign different
materials for e.g. Crystalline Silicon, Monocrystalline etc., used the
software in built efficiency models to estimate produced conductivity,
which shows how much volts of current can be captured.
Master CAM: Designed and machined components like engrenagem (gear), ER32
spanner, Fishing lure mold, Cavity Compression mold for coffee lid, 20
Degree V-Block, Alloy Wheel. Created the component models in 2D or 3D,
assigned stock, specified different machine operations like milling
(contour, pockets, drill, area mill, facing), lathe, grinding etc. Reviewed
the machining sequence and simulation to capture errors. Generated G and M
codes and used as an input for CNC machines to make the parts. (Under
Professor Ronald Griswold, Kent state university)
ENGINEERING PROJECT
Chassis Design for BAJA SAE, Jan 2013 -May 2014
Designed chassis frame in SolidWorks. Made a prototype using plastic pipes
and later re-constructed it using dimensions from SolidWorks. Converted the
solid model of frame into FEA model and for better results, used a finer
tetra mesh elements. Analyzed the frame for various loads in ANSYS V13.
Optimized the chassis design and reduced overall stresses, using better
triangulation of frame members. Finalized chassis design that met all
requirements.
