Marriage and Family Therapy Intern
Experience with families, individuals and couples. Experience with all socioeconomic levels. The practice is heavily
weighted towards lowincome individuals. Using cognitive behavioral therapy and psychoeducation with most of my
patients, I was able to achieve excellent outcomes. Most patients were working on their recovery from depression, anxiety
and PTSD. I also saw some patients with serious mental health conditions including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
My therapeutic philosophy is that every patient can live a productive and interesting life despite having moderate to severe
mental illness. I work hard toward that end helping patients get involved in life and end their isolation. Using the tools
available to them such as the Internet and group therapy, they find volunteer opportunities and work towards solving their
transportation problems.

Shield Program for Adolescent Self Injury
This program teaches families that selfinjurious behavior is defined as deliberate injury inflicted to ones body without the
intent to die. Through a structured program using Dialectical Behavior Therapy, adolescents learned specific skills to stop
the behaviors and manage their emotions effectively. Families received support and skills training as part of a multifamily
group in addition to individual therapy for the adolescent. Excellent outcomes are achieved in this program with 80% of
patients not being rehospitalized.

MEND (Managing Each New Direction)
This program is funded by a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health. Research is being published on patient
outcomes based on improved quality of life.
Worked as a therapist in this program that is designed to support the patient and his/her family in maintaining or regaining
emotional health and balance during the process of a significant medical illness or treatment such as transplantation,
diabetes management or chemotherapy.
I wrote treatment plans and facilitated various groups including individual, peer group, family, multifamily, parent
education and parent support group. 80% positive outcome with few psychiatric rehospitaliztiions.
Served on treatment team consisting of a psychiatrist and 5 therapists to discuss progress of patients and revise treatment
plans and conceptualization of cases.
Guided patients through art therapy to help them express their hidden emotions. For example, for one project they made
abstract selfportraits revealing while another they created masks revealing their inner view of themselves on the inside of
the mask and how the world sees them on the outside of the mask. This gave us a revealing picture into their inner
psyche and a place to begin our work.
Helped patients express themselves by writing specific letters in peer group to people in their lives and then processing
them in multifamily group and empower them to find their voice.
