Someone who drives a semi-trailer or tractor-trailer truck over long distances. Essential responsibility is to transport
freight between terminals and relay stations, or from a home terminal to delivery points. OTR drivers are also
responsible for performing light maintenance functions, including inspecting vehicles and parts to ensure they are in
safe operating condition. They also review shipping and transport papers to determine the nature of their loads and to
ensure it is secured properly. Loaded and unloaded freight, collect charges and lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
Depending upon the nature of the items being transported, drivers may also maintain inventory records along their
routes.
