Performing In Home Therapy and Behavior Therapy under the guidance of a Master's level clinician, in the homes of families with Seriously Emotionally Disturbed children. Emphasis on teaching stress reduction and coping skills to youth with anger management problems, such as children's yoga, breathing techniques, and sensory modulations such as glitter bottles, and sensory bags.

TEACHING AIDE/ SUBSTITUTE TEACHER March 2015 to May 2016

Cutchins Program New Directions School, 78 Pomeroy Terrace, Northampton, MA

Teaching classes on Popular Culture, Strategic Games, and Physical Education to children with emotional disturbances referred by DMH and DCF into special school program. Temporary work with children in the school for children with emotional disturbances, helping them with their academic skills and behavior. Worked for 3 years with a population of individuals and families with children. Worked with adults and children suffering from mild mental illness.

Worked individually with children as a Therapeutic Mentor, proving training in social skills and emotional regulation such as anger management activities. This involved working under direction from a hub, with the child in their home and in the community.

Provided In-Home Therapy as a TT&S to children under the direction of a clinician. This involved outings into the community such as to libraries or playgrounds; visiting them in their homes and playing therapeutic games and activities; and observing them in the classroom or attending school meetings.

Worked individually with adults in the Community Support Program providing information and assistance with obtaining benefits and services.

I provided full-time engagement for 3 years in Hampshire County with clients from Granby to Ashfield.

My work involved connecting families to resources; engaging children in therapeutic activities in the home and the community; meeting with collateral agencies; completing timely documentation and billing paperwork; working under the direction of clinicians; and following the CBHI wraparound model of engagement with families.

Worked for 4 1/2 years with a population of severely mentally ill clients whose ages ranged from 19 to 83 years and who lived alone in their own apartments.. Assisted clients with accessing benefits and housing; supported clients in their goals regarding health, recreation, employment, housing, and integration into the community; escorted clients to medical, psychiatric, therapeutic, and dental appointments as necessary. Brought clients into the community to attend the YMCA, go to movies, or have a meal in a restaurant; and advocated on behalf of the clients with other agencies such as the housing authority, food stamp administration, social security, veterans administration; and many other related tasks. Job ended when contract was terminated and was given to a different agency.

Worked with a population of disturbed children in their homes and schools under the direction of a clinician. Provided information on local activities, classes, and camps, for youth and children in accordance to their treatment plans. Completed documentation, and attended trainings. Engaged in this position during a period of lay-off, and covering for an employee on maternity leave. Reinstated in November 2010 to CSO Family Support Services program, with back pay.

Worked at Sheffield School with a population of 1st through 2nd graders with their reading skills. This was a special initiative of the Clinton Administration called the America Reads Program for children to develop their confidence in reading, especially aimed at low income children. Also managed the program through the summer months and continued at Sheffield with their summer school program. Summer work included calling schools and asking if they were willing to have tutors, and recruiting students to act as tutors. I worked in this program while I was taking nursing courses at the college.

Worked as editor and contributor to their in-house newspaper aimed at educating low-income families about services available both through HCAC and in the community. Wrote articles for the newspaper on substance abuse, nutrition, and agency programs such as the fuel assistance program. Became thoroughly familiar with services provided in Hampshire County by HCAC. Was also responsible for finding a translator to produce the newspaper in Spanish.

Worked as a staff writer and wrote grants for about $50,000 under supervision, for the agency. Was responsible for a number of writing tasks which included business plans for clients, the mission statement of the agency, and data entry for the mailing list. Worked on a newsletter aimed at helping low-income families buy their own homes with sweat equity, and also create jobs in the area.

Took a special class in substance abuse at Greenfield Community College, and worked with homeless families who had become homeless as a result of substance abuse. Assisted in connecting such families to existing treatment in the area. Also worked to recruit and train volunteers to work with the homeless at the shelter. Brought in professionals to train the house staff on substance abuse issues.
