Commands or operates tugboat to tow large barges into and out of the harbor
Operates survey boat to perform bathymetric survey of underwater depth of seabed or underwater terrain
Commands tugboat by maneuvering and steering during survey activities
Operates multicat vessel to ship construction equipment
Operates speedboat for transferring people offshore
Steers tugboat to push or pull barges to destination and to berth and unberth ships avoiding hazards to shipping, utilizing navigational devices for example radar and compass.
Maneuver platforms across sections of the sea or skillfully guide large ships into a narrow port
Signals crew member on deck to rig towlines to barges to be towed
Ensure that the tugboat and its load are headed in the right direction and arrive without incident, keeping an eye on the GPS and radar

Duties and Responsibilities:
Steer and navigate ship under the direction of the ship’s commander and maintain visual communication with other ships
Maintain steady course, properly execute all rudder orders and communicate utilizing navigational terms relating to heading and steering
