Quality Engineer

Investigated problems found in production products and issues reported by the customer. Performed and completed 8D analysis for each problem.

Completed multiple 8D investigations within a timely period which resulted in the reduction of scrap and allowed the production lines to restart.

Performed a Design of Experiments (DOE) for a recurring flatness problem on a transmission gear. This led to a 60% efficiency improvement to the manufacturing process.

Investigated quality problems that were found on the production line, gathered information, found root cause and implemented a corrective action. Then applied a preventative action and collected data that proved the corrective and preventative actions were effective.

Drove 56 effective corrective actions on the door, body panel and chassis lines. Which reduced the amount of line downtime.

Investigated and performed root cause analysis for a deep scratch on the driver’s side door of a Taurus. This resulted in the complete elimination of the defect on 42k vehicles.

Investigated customer problems from RMAs and addressed issues for quality via Corrective Action and Preventative Action (CAPA) process.

Personally lead and instructed four employees in the defect investigation of 11500 medical alarms. Complete investigation was finished a month early. Root cause analysis revealed that a new supplier needed to be selected.

Reported regular customer complaints and Defective Parts Per Million (DPPM) to senior management which provided detailed information to make critical quality manufacturing decisions.

Performed quality inspections on incoming products for cosmetic imperfections. This would determine whether products would be shipped or if rework was required.

Software Assurance Engineer

Created and performed manual test cases based on quality requirements. Investigated problems found to root cause and opened a change request for them to be fixed, which I would then verify.

Created 1800 test cases from a requirements document that were reviewed, maintained and executed. Over 500 change requests were generated that fixed 12 different automotive diagnostic products valued at $2.5 million savings.

Identified a software loophole that would allow non-paid access to a high end feature on diagnostic devices. Resulted in the elimination of the loophole potentially saving up to $8.4 million of lost revenue.

Investigated software problems down to root cause. This enabled the Change Control Team to effectively correct the problem within 2 hours which previously took up to 16 hours.

Carried out unit testing with software developers to help resolve problems that were identified. Contributed to enhancing the collaborative work environment between the software engineers and software test engineers across three different global locations.

Software Test / Systems Engineer 1996 to 2005

Created and performed manual test cases from system requirements for cell phones, wiretapping equipment and parts of an entire phone switch. Investigated problems found by using root cause analysis. Performed on site installation, expansion and upgrades to phone systems nationwide.

Identified a critical problem involving hands free phone system and the dashboard of the vehicle which turned off the dashboard while the car is in motion. Worked with software engineers to eliminate the issue.

Successfully installed the first Surveillance Resource Platform (SRP) for Verizon and the FBI which is used for wiretapping cell phones. This involved complying with over 4000 stringent criteria.

Led a team of five engineers in completing a complex hardware and software installation project for a new mobile switching office. This was completed one week ahead of schedule.

Maintained test case suites with Test Central software which were then utilized to effectively test the software in the vehicle and eliminate problems.

Managed the control of the hardware/software updates and repairs for five, on site, Mercedes Benz test vehicles which were used to verify that the updates worked as expected.

Investigated problems found down to the root level and then reported over 200 problems which were then resolved preventing issues in the hands free phone system performance.

Wrote methods of procedures (MOPs) detailing specific installation steps prior to site arrival. This allowed for a smooth installation of the equipment and reduced the amount of time involved.

Installed, commissioned, and tested iDEN equipment at customers sites. Which developed my interpersonal communication skills.

Installed in the very first implementation of mobile wireless internet web surfing for a high level presentation. No software failures occurred during the presentation.
