Material science engineer with 4+ years of experience across a breadth of fields of metallurgy and material science (Tribology, material characterization, foundry, heat treatment, corrosion, mechanical testing, powder metallurgy & surface coating.)

Qualitative experience of R&D, manufacturing, material failure and reliability engineering in foundry and automotive industry.

Certified six sigma green belt graduate passionate to work as a materials process and quality engineer. Education

MS Material Science & Engineering University of Texas at Arlington GPA 3.5/4 December 2016 B. Tech Metallurgy & Material Science College of Engineering Pune GPA 7.6/10 May 2013 Work Experience

GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT, Tribology and coating laboratory, UTA, USA. August 2014 – December 2016

Research focused on Tribology, Thin-film lubrication, development of new additive chemistries for grease and oil, wear and friction evaluation of high-performance greases for aerospace application, Diesel Engine Soot Extraction and analysis, Materials Characterization, Metallography & failure analysis.

Hands-on experience in SEM, EDX, TEM, FTIR, HT-XRD, XANES, XPS, Hardness measurement, four ball and pin on disc tribometer.

Worked on research project in association with Boeing Aerospace industry on developing extreme pressure additives for the lubricating NLGI 2 grade greases used for aerospace applications. MATERIALS/ METALLURGICAL ENGINEER - PROCESS, Chassis Brakes International (foundry), Pune, India. June 2013 – July 2014

Responsibilities include supervision of metallurgical test lab by doing microstructure analysis and mechanical tensile testing by using SEM, EDX, optical microscope and hardness testers. Calibration and maintenance of all the testing equipment in the lab.

Carrying out failure analysis and identifying root causes by using non-destructive testing (Ultrasonic testing, dye penetrant and visual inspection) and providing recommendations on improving manufacturing process to avoid/reduce the occurrence of failure.

Learned and assessed quality of cast-iron and aluminum products by using statistical control charts, FMEA, RCA, fishbone and scatter diagram.

Carried FMEA of the casting process to reduce the number of rejection of cast products due to sand porosity defect. Successful RCA and implemented solution improved casting scrap rate by 33%. Experienced with ISO 9000 and familiarity with PPAP & APQP. RESEARCH INTERN, Cummins Technologies India Limited, Pune, India. May 2012- December 2012

Worked with R&D team and suggested new advanced thin film surface coating techniques for salvaging of used Cummins diesel engine components. Developed and analyzed various types of new salvage technologies like Laser cladding, Electro spark deposition, HVOF and plasma arc spray for removing pitting and corrosion damage on used diesel engine components.

Directed suggestion and research work on developing nichrome coating by ESD for lube pump cover and cam shaft lobe damage resulted in reduction of part replacement cost by almost 20%. METALLURGICAL ENGINEERING INTERN, Shembekar Foundry, Pune, India. June 2011 – November 2011

Trained at Cast Iron foundry producing raw & machined castings. Practically handled CO2 gas, Green sand and Silica sand molding. Controlled and operated Cupola furnace for melting cast iron.

Characterization and microstructure analysis of different grades of steel and its alloys for alloy development. Experience on surface heat treatment processes like carburizing, nitriding and carbonitiriding. Academic Projects
