Canal Impacts: Presented research on the possible environmental impacts of building the proposed Nicaraguan Canal, especially the effects of building in and through Lake Nicaragua (2016)

Phenotypic Plasticity: Led discussion on the phenotypic plasticity of sponges native to areas with different wave intensity (2015)

Chesapeake Bay: Proposal to help mitigate habitat destruction in the Chesapeake Bay (2016)

Research

Algae Identification: Sampling and identifying algae of the western Great Lakes to determine specimens

to genus (2015)

Physiology: Review of primary literature discussing physiological adaptions of intertidal organisms to environmental stressors (2016)

Antibiotic Resistance: Cultured bacteria to find antibiotic resistant strains. Colonies were isolated and identified using DNA sequencing. Skills learned during the research include PCR, gel electrophoresis, gram staining, isolating colonies of bacteria, and writing an article to scientific journal expectations (2014)

Invertebrate Zoology (class): dissection of annelids, arthropods, mollusks. Responsible for anatomy and physiology of organisms from single celled organisms to echinoderms (2015)

Skills

Aquatic sampling techniques such as plankton tows, kick-sampling of macroinvertebrates

Use of compound and dissecting microscopes and dichotomous key

Water quality assessments using indicator species

Creating microscope slides from field samples, including diatom mounting in Naphrax

Intramural hockey supervisor- responsible for all on ice officials, must attend every game to deal with fights, injuries, and overall control of the game (2015-2016)
