Teaching Experience

English Faculty at Shangluo University, Shaanxi Province, China

Taught English lessons to Chinese University students (freshmen and sophomore students, 20-40 students per class, 4 classes)

Participated in the university teachers’ weekend group on ‘Planning, Sharing, Teaching’ to improve learning effectiveness

Worked closely with British VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) volunteers to develop teaching methodology innovations such as student-led lessons, in-class character role-plays and grammar auctions

Provided suggestions to the provincial curriculum review board to revise the primary school English textbook; Recommendations were adopted in a subsequent edition published by Shaanxi Lvyou Press in 2015

Taught Mandarin classes to American Peace Corps volunteers (2-5 adult students per class)

Designed tasks requiring the use of speaking, listening, writing and reading skills to interact with local Chinese people for more authentic language experiences

Developed a database of basic sentence patterns in Chinese and their approximate English meaning to better assist English speakers with their learning of Mandarin

Education Attaché & Translator of the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Beijing

Provide English-Chinese linguistic support to Embassy staff at bilateral conferences (e.g. governmental MOU negotiations and signing ceremonies); translate documents and official correspondence from English to Chinese and vice versa

Assist Ambassadors and diplomats at official receptions and events, organized by the Ministry of foreign Affairs of China, foreign diplomatic missions and other organizations

Liaise between visiting Namibian students and Chinese authorities; visit Chinese universities where government-sponsored Namibian students study; evaluate two hundred students’ academic results and provide written reports to the Ministry of Education of Namibia

Manage students’ affairs including drafting diplomatic letters, following up with students’ academic performance, assisting students with their visa issues, processing scholarship payments, coordinating between authorities for school transfers and handling students’ legal cases
