Job Description:
Stock Management
- Stock Management-animal health and welfare. (Assisting with the
management of the animals on farm as directed by the farm manager and
Farm Systems Manual including:
Identifying and assisting with treatment of mastitis in cows and of
lame cows
Reporting any incidences of bloat or suspected bloat immediately to
the farm manager
Moving and handling animals in an acceptable way at all times.
- Seasonal management requirements. (Assist with all seasonal requirements
as directed by the farm manager)
Assisting with calving, mating, and wintering requirements
Reporting any instances that require further action
- Other stock management requirements. (Assist with all stock
management as directed by the farm manager)

Ensured the practice of good stock management which includes: proper cow segregation,
strict observance of feeding and milking schedules, conduct of periodic stock de-worming,
regular hoof trimmings, dehorning and castration procedures, monitoring of breeding
schedules, as well as on-time feeding and hydration of stocks
Maintained proper stock handling during milking of cows and even in instances requiring the
cows to be restrained during veterinary application, artificial inseminations and palpation.
This also included extending special attention to sick stocks and assisting cows with
birthing problems during calving
Oversaw and assured good animal nutrition to the stocks by providing them with the
prescribed minerals and vitamins to stocks, feeding the stocks with the right volume of
forages and or silage and giving the right amount of feed concentrate if necessary. This also
involved making silage and formulating and mixing feed concentrate along with ensuring
the practice of rotational grazing and providing the stock with a continuous supply of fresh
and clean water.
Handled the cows during their breeding periods by assisting in hormone application for
synchronized breeding, using skill in heat detection on cows, restraining cows and assisting
in artificial insemination (A.I.) application and monitored the estrus cycle of the stocks for
possible rebreeding.
Supervised and maintained safe practices to ensure the quality of animal health by closely
observingand monitoring the stocks for possible clinical signs of ill health and then
reporting immediately to the herd manager for the appropriate action. This also involved
conducting periodic mastitis testing to lactating cows, applying dry cow therapy prior to
drying lactating cows, periodic hoof trimming especially to lame cows, feeding the calves
the right amount of colostrums immediately after birth, assisting cows in cases of birthing
problems during calving, conducting periodic de-worming of stocks, and maintaining
proper sanitation in all farm facilities.
Handled Pasture Development and Allocationby using knowledge in: farm tractor operation
for land preparation, seed planting of pasture grasses, eradication of undesirable weeds in
pasture either by way of herbicide spray or manual vegetative control and rotational
grazing. This also involved allocating the right number of cows in a certain paddocks based
on available of dry matter volume of pasture grasses and the application of the right volume
of urea fertilizer to pasture every after grazing for fast re-growth of pasture grasses and
pasture flooding irrigation.
HandledGeneral Farm Workswhich includes: installation and repair of electronic fences,
replacement of rotten fence-post, minor repair of facilities, electrical, plumbing and
carpentry works as well as in automotive trouble shooting.
