WORK HISTORY
Frimley Health Foundation Trust, Wexham Park Hospital
Staff nurse
February 2014 - Current date Surgical
October 2013 - February 2014 Trauma and Orthopedics
[UK]
Wexham Park Hospital is a large public hospital and provides a service to a diverse and large population. The hospital has 588 beds and is in the process of increasing the bed capacity. Wexham Park Hospital is a general hospital, providing acute services such as emergency care, trauma and orthopedics surgery, intensive care, pediatric care, maternity services, cardiology, stroke unit and surgery.
I started working in trauma and orthopedics and I now work on a surgical ward named the ‘Christiansen Unit’. The patient to nurse ratio is 8:1, with the ward capacity being currently 16. The ward primarily cares for those undergoing general surgery, dealing with both pre and post-operative care, although we often work outside this remit.
Working full time, I typically care for those with sepsis, appendectomy, pancreatitis, bowel surgery, bowel obstruction, urology and plastic cases. Recently the ward became a ‘surgical assessment unit’ meaning that we also take patients directly from accident and emergency, ensuring they receive diagnostic procedures and are admitted accordingly.
I am professionally and managerially accountable to the ward matron. Without supervision, I am responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of care, whilst ensuring I am responsive to individual care needs. On a regular basis I take charge of the shift, using effective communication skills, while positively encouraging and supporting colleagues as appropriate. Being in charge of the shift, I organise and deploy staff according to competencies and workload, in order to effectively meet the needs of the patients, taking responsibility for supporting and co-ordinating patients discharge in line with the trusts guidelines. I support the induction of bank and agency staff to the ward environment. With a positive attitude, I proactively anticipate and respond to complaints, aiming to prevent escalation to formal complaints being made, enhancing patient experience and satisfaction.
Competencies gained at Wexham Park Hospital:
Rana Medical Centre
Home Care Nurse
April 2016 - October 2016
[UAE]
Al Rana is a private medical centre in Al Ain. I work within the homecare team, providing comprehensive nursing services to patients in the community. I work well within a team and can adapt to different situations that nursing naturally gives. I am proficient in being able to respond appropriately to patients holistic needs, and able to document comprehensively and evaluate care on a continuous basis. I coordinate care with both the patient and families to developed tailored care plans. I nurse patients in their own home, and passionately provide excellence nursing care, in line with my vast knowledge of nursing care policies and procedures. I assist with medication management whilst I manage patient’s long term health conditions with appropriate health promotion and advice.
Everycare
Health Care Assistant
November 2011 - November 2013
[UK]
I worked part time, whilst studying full time. Typically working 10-22 hours per week for a nursing agency named Everycare, within both the private and public sector, mainly in community and residential settings.
I was responsible for providing assistance in all aspects of care to enable patients/residents fulfil all basic activities of daily living. I maintained accurate nursing records in line with guidelines and assisted the nurses in administering treatments as required whilst reporting to the nurse in charge.
