Overview:

I am certified by the ANCC as a PMHCNS-BC. I taught psychiatric nursing at Indiana University for 39 years and have worked in a psychiatric in-patient setting (Quinco, Columbus, IN). I have provided mental health counseling as a volunteer at the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic in Bloomington. I am now working as an adjunct faculty with Indiana Wesleyan University. I am very involved in Mental Health America of Indiana, our local MHA board, our Suicide Prevention Coalition, and the state Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Indiana board. I completed a ten year appointment on the Governor’s Commission on Mental Health in 2013. I also serve on the board of the Indiana Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health (immediate past chair). I serve as facilitator for two self-help support groups: Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance and Schizophrenics Anonymous, each meeting twice per month. I served (21 years) in the Army Reserves as an LTC in the 55th Medical Co., a psychiatric unit, until 2005. I am an involved member of the American Nurses Association, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau. I completed my dissertation for my DNP program at Brandman University in Irvine, CA. where my clinical project involved conducting a study on adherence to treatment with psychiatric clients and received my DNP degree in December 2013. I worked as an advanced practice nurse with prescriptive authority for Corizon Health at Wabash Valley Correctional facility and the Indiana Women’s Prison (2014-2015). I was working in the same capacity as a locum tenens for Adult and Child Mental Health Center in Greenwood, IN, February through July 2016.
