Summary
A Senior Automation/Mechanical Engineering Professional with track records of getting all the assigned projects completed successfully in various engineering areas such as automation equipment development, automation equipment troubleshooting, control systems design and upgrade, electromechanical systems design, process development, automation systems integration. A completely dependable engineer who can maximize available resources through good cooperation with coworkers, customers, company management and vendors.
Professional Experience
nanoPrecision Products Inc. (El Segundo, California), 2007 - July, 2016
Senior member of technical staff:
? Participated In project management of developing automated assembly machine from concept idea, proposal preparation, design, control systems design, fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, documentation, customer buyoff and delivery of the results.
? Developed a precision micro spot size laser welding machine from the ground up:
This is a system with dual laser head 100 ?m spot size built from scratch. This system has 6 axes motion control stages, 1 analogue output for pneumatic pressure control with current amplifier, 40 digital inputs and outputs combined. Mechanical design, electronic hardware interface design for laser controller and motion controller integration, control software development with TCL language, laser welding process development were all complete in an easy to access and easy to reconfigure machine layout on a vibration isolation table. This system is flexible to handle various different applications and is currently utilized for development of automated sub-micron accuracy assembly of components for communications, MEMS switch and hard disc drive application.
? Engineered a major improvement of a hydro-mechanical stamping press with 200 ton capacity to realize a control capabilities precise to 500 nm resolution and ?5 ?m repeatability
? As the principal investigator of an SBIR Phase 2 contract for U.S. military, successfully developed prototype products from scratch. The product is a MEMS component with micron-size features which can be mass-produced by automated stamping and laser welding processes.
? Developed laser machining processes of MEMS switch components which have feature sizes and spacing between features in microns. Have experiences of both wet (water-jet-guided) micro laser machining and dry laser machining.
Teledyne Relays (Hawthorne, California), 1990 - 2007
Manager, Automation Engineering, 1995 - 2007
Seon Myung Kim, Ph.D. (page 2)
? As a project leader, developed or upgraded over 20 different customized manufacturing machines or test machines for basic design, control systems design, electrical interface configuration, mechanical design and systems integration, for cumulative and recurring annual cost savings of over 1.5 million dollars based on the currency value of the periods when the machines were developed, and quality improvement. Most of those machines are still (as of today) in full use in every day manufacturing operations.
? Technically: Most of those machines have multiple assembly or process stations ranging from 12 to 1 stations with various control devices and programming. Completed all the projects initiated with the planned outcome. Seasoned project management that enables streamlined and rather clear-looking approach on many projects which initially are considered very complicated.
? Led the execution of the whole factory re-configuration and process flow improvement as the project manager to realize lean manufacturing throughout the factory. The factory turned out to be modern look environment for customer impression and employee work environment. Also, it increased space efficiency, resulting in 20% savings in manufacturing spaces.
Project Engineer, Automation Engineering, 1990-1995
? Developed and upgrades automated manufacturing equipment and processes.
