Senior Engineer Bechtel Power, SF 1972 - 1978

Staff engineer responsible for design, design review, field troubleshooting, and in-house consultant to 15-20 nuclear and fossil-fueled power plants regarding their HVAC needs

Over 17 field trips to power plants. Devised solutions for serious HVAC system malfunctions due to improper design, installation, operation and/or maintenance. Some of these malfunctions prevented commercial operation of plant and loss of $500,000 daily revenue.

Design and Equipment Review

Initiated technical review of all design engineering calculations (approximately 200 calcs from 12 engineers) for HVAC systems and reviewed all equipment selections (making recommendations for equipment, layout and systems changes) for the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant. This in-depth investigation was in response to a serious client concern regarding adequacy of the design. Performed technical review of specifications and bids for air handling units, fans and chillers for the Hope Creek Nuclear Plant ($500,000 - $1,000,000 bids from 5 suppliers). Reviewed plant heating systems for several fossil-fueled power plants
