OBJECTIVE

I'd like to use my 40 years of experience and local connections will all media outlets in Northeast

Florida to eagerly accept challenging story ideas for publication and public relations. I approach

every assignment with energy and enthusiasm, and I'm always willing to ask the extra question,

consider all possible scenarios, check all facts, and deliver all assignments before deadline. My

EXPERIENCE

Morris Communications 1996 2016

Sports Editor

I was responsible for developing and creating stories for a national chain of newspapers. While my

primary responsibilities were with NASCAR, golf, arena football, college football and basketball and

general assignments, I also worked several times on special award-winning assignments.

ST Motorsports/JTG Daugherty Racing 1995-2007

Public Relations Specialist

I created weekly press releases on the truck and Nationwide NASCAR teams, featuring the work of

the drivers and crews. Stories were sent nationally to local media outlets of upcoming venues, as

well as racing-themed outlets. At the track, I often provided tours to sponsors of the garage area and

pit road while answering general questions about the team.

Clayton Daily News 1994 - 1996

Sports Editor

I supervised a two-man sports department that developed local news stories and features, primarily

focusing on high schools, college and the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. In addition to

writing and scheduling, I was a page designer.

AutoZone 1994 - 1996

Sales and Inventory

I was responsible for maintaining inventory, including stocking shelves, as well as providing customer

service.

Florida Today / USA Today 1980 - 1994

Sports Reporter

I was a general assignment reporter who quickly gained high-priority assignments like full-time

coverage of the University of Central Florida athletics, the Orlando Magic, NASCAR, and the PGA

Tour. I also was given the responsibility of reporting on the launch of Space Shuttle Discovery on

Sept. 29, 1988 the first flight following the explosion of Space Shuttle Challenger two years earlier.

Bethune-Cookman University 1977 - 1980

Sports Information Director

I was responsible for creating content on players, coaches, administrators and sports programs for

release to local and national media, as well as boosters, sponsors, financial benefactors and alumni

for a private university. I wrote, edited, photographed and recorded audio of stories for publications,

as well as maintaining statistics for all sports and writing a football media guide every fall. My primary

role was to assist media requests while creating feature ideas to keep the school's athletic

department relevant.

Viscount Hotel 1976 - 1977

Front Office Manager

I was responsible for staffing and scheduling the front desk of a major hotel at Walt Disney World.

Duties included check-ins, check-outs, night audits, customer service, and servicing as the Manager

on Duty.
