To whom it may concern,

Letter of Introduction.

After graduating from Volkskool High School in Potchefstroom in 1997, I made my first big and challenging move, I pursued my childhood dream of visiting the USA. I exchanged my safety net, family, friends and everything familiar to me for the unknown. I went to Houston, Texas as an au pair for 6 months. That was undoubtedly the hardest but most rewarding move I’ve made. My stay and experience in the USA made me a strong and independent woman, being capable to survive and thrive alone in the big world. I returned to South Africa in May 1998 as a renewed person, ready to take on everything life could throw my way.

In June 1998 I started my career in Hospitality at Elgo Hotel in Potchefstroom at reception, with the prospects of working myself to the top in the Hospitality Sector. Life had different plans for my career as this is where I was first introduced to Labour Relations that caught my attention straight away, and I quickly changed directions. In January 1999 I was employed by Lexus Labour Consultants as a personal assistant for the owner/director of the business Mr. Andre Viviers. Unfortunately in 2000 I was retrenched due to the liquidation of the company.

With the experience I attained during my employment at Lexus Labour Consultants I was able to secure a new position in May 2000 at IRNAMS (Industrial Relations and Management Solutions), once again as a personal assistant for the director as well as the labour consultants. As a personal assistant I obtained a valuable amount of training in the field. I also participated in in-house training presented to us by a legend in the field Mr Eric Louw. Mr. Louw is an attorney specialising in Labour Relations, and at that stage, he was acting in the position of Senior Convening Commissioner of the CCMA. He also acted as Judge at the Labour Court in Johannesburg. We studied case law and the interpretation of the Labour Relations Act and Basic conditions of Employment act in depth. This training and the knowledge I received during these compulsory weekly training was the most valuable of all. I also worked closely with Mr. Louw for a length of time and during this time period received unmeasurable experience from him.

During my course of employment at IRNAMS, I also successfully completed various Labour Relations courses at PUK University such as “Advanced Course in Labour Law” and “Arbitration, mediation and Conciliation”. I worked hard to promote myself in the business and eventually was promoted to a Labour Consultant. As a Labour Consultant I worked with big corporate companies, dealing with all their labour related issues. Companies I worked for included Suzuki SA, Friendly Grocers, Spar, Pick ‘n Pay, Shell garages, Excel garages, Sasol garages, Spur groups, John Dory’s, Panarotti’s, Mike’s Kitchen, Dros Restaurants and the West Vaal Delta group, to name a few. My main duties included drafting and implementing employment contracts, policies and procedures, dealings with Unions and union negotiations, strikes, retrenchments, warnings, disciplinary enquiries, Conciliations, Mediations and Arbitrations, Labour Court representations.

I continued furthering my development by successfully completing various training courses by SASLAW.

As a young entrepreneur and following my success in Labour Relations, I decided that it was time for me to start my own company. Together in 2005 with a prominent business partner Adv. Nicolene Erasmus, we registered “Skillful Investments t/a Smit & Erasmus Labour Practitioners” in Potchefstroom. We quickly expanded our operations and the business was growing at a fast pace and is still very successful. In 2008 my partner sold her share of the company to me and I became sole owner of the business, where I am currently.

In June 2016 I enrolled at ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) for their course in alternative dispute resolution. On completion I will be a qualified/certified Conciliator, Mediator and Arbitrator.

As support to my application I enclose my full Curriculum Vitae.

Yours truly
