DC Migration Lead Infrastructure Architect
Data center migration Lead Architect for the State of PA. Harrisburg, Unisys
Create master wave plan for migration schedule, migration forecast for projections on hardware orders. Create project templates, and deep dive technical session agendas.
Create process for migration methodologies, to include standardization of build sheets, specialized service desk ticketing, and interim order process.
Consult on infrastructure dependencies, network requirements, systems configuration, and storage layouts to maximize the new DC configurations.
Freddie Mac -Va. Sr. Infrastructure Engineer
Consult and design project solutions for business customers within Freddie Mac. Foster configuration standards within the business units to allow for a standard project build set of 4+1 environments (Dev/SIT/UAT/Prod + DR) in order to prevent server sprawl within the updated infrastructure.
Upgrade applications from legacy environments to enable support on new infrastructure. Work with application vendors to acquire support of the applications in a virtual environment.
Was able to show one vendor a 29% performance improvement on a virtual platform and convince the vendor to provide support for their application in the virtual platform.
Work on legacy remediation and consolidation projects using T4, T4-2, T5 and M10 Sun/Oracle servers on the Solaris side, in order to take the enterprise environment from 75 racks of mixed platform servers down to 9 racks of servers.
Work with the Middleware and Database teams in order to consolidate, and retire up to thirteen hundred unused instances within the Data Centers. Saving license costs of ~ $800K per year.
Work on Cloud solutions (Vmware, containers) to further streamline the day to day operations.
Work with the build teams in order to make installations more automated and efficient. (Build templates, active directory)
Work with the retirement and decommission teams in order to streamline the processes involved with coordinating the retirement of the legacy servers to free up power, cooling, and rack space within the data centers. The consolidation has already provided cost savings in excess of $22K a month in power and cooling reductions.
Work with facilities personnel to discuss data center consolidation efforts. With all of the virtualization efforts, we were be able to consolidate 5 local NOVA data centers into two very efficient data centers. This aligned with in region High Availability efforts and allowed for a more efficient out of region Disaster Recovery replication model. Saving Freddie Mac ~$20 Million dollars over the next five years.
