SUMMARY

Mr. Chiappetta is seeking a full-time position as a Senior Staff Engineer for missions applied to spacecraft,

manned/unmanned aircraft, and their ground stations. Mr. Chiappetta is specialized in the Systems Engineering,

design and (advanced) packaging of directional mmWave through optical assemblies for air and spacecraft.

Mr. Chiappetta has performed new product development in linearized frequency converters (8GHz through 100GHz),

InP LNAs, power amplifier linearizers (44GHz through 100GHz) for tubes and solid state, free-space optical link

refinement, SBIR Proposal concepts & technical writing.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Unique Solutions 2016 - Present

Consultant (mmWave packaging)

Mr. Chiappetta is assisting Unique Solutions in the design of V-Band and E-Band Radar (mmWave imagers) for a

commercial application that which will soon transition to production.

Westwind Technologies in Alabama 2015 - 2016

Senior Staff Engineer

Mr. Chiappetta helped complete Westwinds first UAV; with 3lb payloads (24 Megapixel still camera, Tracking

Gimballed Camera, and a nose camera) was 17 Lb GTOW (for 1 hour) or 22 Lb GTOW (for 2 hours). Also Mr.

Chiappetta generated numerous proposed (Microwave, mmWave and optical) Directional Communications

arrangements in an effort to bring work into Westwind.

Private Consultation 2015

Mr Chiappetta has design-reviewed a well-packaged 4-Cyl Heavy-Fuel Engine with boost for high-altitude operation,

and showing ability to replace Lycoming and Continental engines. This 100-450 HP engine has been designed in the

U.S.A for efficiency, ease of manufacture, High Reliability, quietness, and greatly reduced torsional harmonics. Mr.

Chiappetta has also assessed the use of Liquid Natural Gas for arctic and naval aviation propulsion.

NAVMAR Applied Sciences in PA 2012 - 2015

UAS Senior Staff Engineer

Mr. Chiappetta was applied as a UAS Senior Staff Engineer within the Advanced Development group at Navmar

Applied Sciences Corp (NASC) where he had been responsible for Tigershark UAV performance and new UAV

product development in the area of Tier III, II, & I UAV, UAS with emphasis on a clean-sheet design of a 57 HP 2-

Stroke gasoline engine development that passed the FAR 33 endurance evaluation. This engine design was to evolve to

heavy fuel capability. Mr. Chiappetta also lead the independent development of a 2-stage boost assembly for high

altitude loitering. This assembly weighed 10 Lbs and was inspired by the performance parameters of the 3-Stage

ERAST boost information released from the NASA Teal Rain effort. Mr. Chiappetta assessed exhaust power

regeneration for extended cruise endurance and increased electrical power capabilities, Reduction-Drive design,

torsional harmonic mitigation, engine power to propeller load matching, propeller quieting and variable-pitch propeller

procurement.

Mr. Chiappetta also help configure and execute a Mobile Operations Center (a GCS) that featured his Directional

antenna suite and Omni roost. Vehicles & Components; antennas, maritime weatherization, Ice Mitigation, composite

strut development, EMI susceptibility levels with mitigation, microwave circuit hardening, Wireless Comms hardware,

avionics, and servos. Mr. Chiappettas Phase I Army SBIR Ku-Ka SATCOM antenna for manned aircraft was invited

to Phase II. Mr. Chiappetta also provided Technical Evaluations to support Purchasing.

Linearizer Technology, Inc (LTI) (LTI-GOV) (LP) 2009 - 2012

Consultant

Mr. Chiappetta performed SBIR proposal, technical papers, product concept and business development, and test work

on millimeter Linearizers to Ka-Band, Q- V- E- & W-Band power amplifiers to improve efficiency. Also Mr.

Chiappetta started a product line of Linearized Block Upconverters (LBUCs) to improve SATCOM Hardware

integration and LTIs competitive edge. Mr. Chiappetta has worked closely with (the VP of) Linear Photonics to

support their analog fiber optic hardware developments.

Lockheed Martin IS&GS (formerly GE Military & Data Systems Division) 2003 2009

Systems Engineer, Senior Staff

Mr. Chiappetta revisited Lockheed Martin as Spacecraft Systems Engineer, Senior Staff in the Systems Integration

organization (SI OCI firewall) at Valley Forge PA and continued applied optical link work and providing advisement

on the space segment missions. Mr. Chiappetta also supported Hypersonic SATCOM command and control links

applied to the Falcon HTV-1 and HTV-2 Mach-20 reentry vehicles and their antenna stations. Mark also supported

analyses and reports on a TRL-9 Free-Space Optical full-duplex link system. Mr. Chiappetta supported the GPS III

Proposal team as the Navigation Payload Specification Author with emphasis as SME on the power amplifiers, atomic

clock devices and technologies, an the 60 GHz crosslink hardware and system. The GPS III spacecraft work was

followed to Newtown PA to support SDR, PDR and CDR. GPS III has moved to CO, and the Newtown facility has

closed.

Senior Staff Engineer, various organizations 1997 - 2003

Mr. Chiappetta was invited to join a small optical startup in support of a joint Lockheed Martin/GE-Corporate

Research effort in the development of in-line fiber optical modulators. Mr. Chiappetta followed the packaging

technology by applying the HDI Laser-array and Detector array module fabrication with GE-CRD and AMP Industries

(now TYCO), which led to supporting analog fiber-optic link developments applied to IDECM Towed-Decoy, and

link deliveries to the Rivet Joint SIGINT aircraft, System Studies of analog optical links to feed the Combat-Sent

SIGINT aircraft, and being invited to support both-sides (Firewalled) of the Boeing vs Lockheed competition for the

JSF-35 fighter aircraft involving silicon-dioxide coax versus microwave-mmWave links for JSF & digital parallel

optical link fabrication for F-22 to JSF.

Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space (Formerly GE Space Systems Division) 1986 - 1996

mmWave Hardware Engineer

Mr. Chiappetta served as a millimeterwave hardware design engineer for GE-Space Systems (now Lockheed Martin

Missiles) in Valley Forge PA, where he led the development of many microwave, millimeter wave, and fiber optic

components and subsystems for numerous Military and Commercial GEO, and Civil-LEO spacecraft. Mr.

Chiappettas Hardware design techniques yielded space-borne low phase noise Dielectric Resonator oscillators (Master

Oscillators for EOS-AM, EOS-PM, LANDSAT-7, and the 60GHz Crosslink Adv Comm Subsystems), FET-HEMT fast

hopping frequency multipliers (MILSTAR EHF-LDR), up- and down-converters (Mixers, filters, and such) on various

payloads to other SVs, Monoscan converters for Antenna Dish pointing, supported process development and use of

High-Density Interconnect (HDI) of mmWave circuits, and made fiber optic analog DFB-laser and photodiode

receivers with reactive matching having either broadband or selective microwave passbands.
