Hemodialysis Nurse II
As a Certified Nephrology Nurse, performed hemodialysis nursing functions and technical functions:
• Prepared the availability of the dialysis machines • Verified patient’s regular schedule • Explained the hemodialysis procedures • Performed pre-dialysis physical assessment • Set the hemodialysis machine • Rinsed the dialyzers, attached and installed all required blood tubing • Took vital signs every 15 minutes for the first hour and every 30 minutes for the succeeding hours of treatment or more frequent depending on the patient’s status • Attended hemodialysis complications that arose during the treatment • Ensured every dialysis prescription is carried out • Extracted pre and post dialysis blood examinations • Assessed patient’s condition for signs of congestion and edema; and determined the target UF (ultrafiltration) • Checked good patency of access • Performed hundreds of AV fistula and AV graft cannulation, cared patients with intrajugular access, femoral catheter access, permanent catheter, subclavian catheter, gortex access, including AV shunt • Monitored and observed patient for possible complication during the whole treatment • Provided patient’s comfort and assisted them on their personal needs • Administered appropriate nursing management and care before, during and after dialysis treatment • Administered care and first aid during emergency • Assisted doctors and co-staff during cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and other emergency situation • Communicated with immediate superiors when problems arose • Communicated with doctors regarding orders made, patient’s problem, carried out physician’s orders • Reminded patients about care of their access, home medications, and schedule for their next hemodialysis treatment • Documented in a legible manner all observations and procedures done during treatment • Reported any minor/major machine breakdown, problems on supplies, and other equipments used in the area • Discussed problems with co-workers as well as patient’s complaints to our head nurse or supervisor on duty • Participated in stock maintenance, proper care of equipment and unit cleanliness • Trained and supervised new dialysis nurses and nursing assistants • Provided informal lectures to nursing trainees and new employees • Attended in-service trainings and seminars • Participated scheduled staff meetings
