Summary of Qualifications:

I have a doctorate in chemistry and am a Certified Electroplater-Finisher. I have worked in the laboratories in Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing. I understand the different perspectives that each organization has regarding design and production. I have experience with laboratory design, equipment selection and installation, analytical development, equipment and analytical validation and documentation, and management. I have a lot of experience in program management and change management. I have a lot of experience working in teams, both as a team member and as a team leader. Many of these teams included suppliers and customers. My training in TRIZ has shown me that with the proper mix of professionals on a team, psychological inertia can be minimized when solving problems.

Skills:

Coatings and Finishes, Program Management, and Change Management

Experienced with electroplating and surface finishing, specialty coatings, such as high temperature phosphoric acid resistant coatings, and chemical milling.

Revised process and material specifications, using data and engineering judgment, to make them easier to read as well as to incorporate changes to the materials, processes, and inspection procedures that would make the parts manufactured using those materials and processes cheaper, better, easier to produce, and more consistent.

Performed the testing required to justify changes to the process and material specifications as well as material, process, and Quality Assurance inspection substitutions.

Developed, tested, and implemented process improvements and new materials into the manufacturing shops and Quality Assurance, both within the company and at suppliers.

Determined the cause of processing problems and developed methods and tools to help prevent their reoccurrence.

I was the former Chemical Process Manager for the Boeing Research and Technology tank line in Auburn. In this position, I worked with the engineers and technicians in my group as well as with Site Services engineers, plumbers, and electricians, and people from Environmental, Health and Safety to implement changes to the tank line and processes to support testing, safety, and environmental requirements. I documented procedures for the use of equipment and processes performed in the tank line. I updated the Tank Line Training with Joint Programs and updated the Tank Line On-The-Job Training.

Analytical Chemistry and Quality Assurance

Opened two environmental laboratories, including equipment purchase, installation, calibration, validation, and documentation.

Developed and documented analytical procedures for the equipment and the processes performed in the Quality Assurance laboratories to ensure consistency in the analysis as well as to train new personnel.

Performed analysis of unknown materials to determine their origin and to assist in their removal and disposal.

Performed failure analysis of aircraft parts and determined the root causes of failures to prevent their reoccurrence.

Performed instrumental chemical analysis using the following equipment:

Gas Chromatography (Direct Injection and Purge & Trap)

Ion Chromatography

Infrared Spectroscopy (Scanning and Fourier Transform)

UV/Visible Spectroscopy

X-Ray Fluorescence

Flow Injection Analysis and Sequential Injection Analysis (Undergraduate Research and Doctoral Dissertation)

Performed testing of composite materials using the following equipment:

Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)

Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA)

Thermal Mechanical Analysis (TMA)

Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)

Computing

Experience with web page design, including programming in JavaScript. Developed a web site to provide visibility of bath chemistry, including:

An Excel spreadsheet, which Quality Assurance used to automatically update the web site.

Add/Draw calculator, with the current bath chemistry automatically entered when the chemistry is updated by the above Excel spreadsheet.

A training course for how to perform the process.

Information on how to troubleshoot the process.

Process flow sheets.

Proficient at using Microsoft Office Applications, including writing macros for these applications using Visual Basic for Applications.

Other Skills

Trained in TRIZ, the Russian Theory of Inventive Problem Solving.

Experienced in the presentation of data and information.
