I opened my own practice in Traverse City in 2012. I maintained my client base and continued to litigate contested cases in insurance defense, arson and fraud, PIP and no- fault, general liability, municipal defense and general business. I also developed a business law practice, with a specialty in employment law. I continued as corporate counsel for several municipalities including a community mental health agency where I advised in areas of employee relations, contracts, real estate, inter-local governmental matters and Federal and state funding issues.

In September of 2007, I advanced to Equity Partnership with CMDA. I maintained direct supervision of the Traverse City and Grand Rapids office. I had oversight responsibilities for productivity and collections for the firm. I maintained an active litigation docket as well as municipal representation and services to my client base. 2001 to 2007- GENERAL PARTNER- Cummings, McClorey, Davis and Acho In 2001, I was hired as Partner to manage the Traverse City Office of this municipal defense firm. Specializing in the defense of municipalities in litigated issues including public building defect, constitutional law violations, hot pursuit, jail suicide, discrimination, employment and in non-litigated issues such as labor negotiations, contract formation, grievance and arbitration, representation before the NLRB and EEOC. I also maintained my general defense practice which included product liability, malpractice, premises liability and maritime law.

1998 to 2001-HOUSE COUNSEL- Citizens Insurance Company In 1998, I was brought in house by one of my insurance clients where I established the first arson, fraud and subrogation litigation defense unit for Citizens Insurance Company in the State of Michigan. Co-authored Citizen’s Property Claims Investigation Manual. Conducted training seminars for house counsel and adjusters in Michigan and, also, nationally for Citizens’ parent company, Allmerica Financial. Handled a substantial caseload of State and Federal cases.

1993 to 1998-PARTNER- Morrison, Mahoney and Miller In 1993, I was asked to join the firm as partner in the Grand Rapids, Michigan office. I handled litigated matters in property insurance defense, subrogation, professional malpractice, premises liability and maritime law. I also handled private civil matters involving domestic, criminal and regulatory matters. Drafted association bylaws, contracts, deeds and corporate documents. Handled some personal injury and property damage matters for private clients.

1988 to 1993-LITIGATION ATTORNEY- Denenberg, Tuffley and Jamieson I entered the private practice of law in 1988 with the firm. I handled all facets of insurance defense, property and liability, i.e., arson and fraud investigations, subrogation, product liability, premises liability, No Fault, personal injury, dram shop and property damage. Also handled litigated matters in contracts, real estate, small corporations, medical malpractice, administrative law, workers compensation, liquor licensing and regulation, criminal law and domestic disputes.

1983 to 1988- SENIOR ASSISTANT PROSECUTOR- Kalamazoo County In this capacity, I tried 47 Circuit Court jury trials to verdict, over 80 misdemeanor jury trials to verdict, special prosecutor - child sexual abuse, special prosecutor- civil forfeitures under the public health code. Named Special Assistant Prosecutor in Van Buren County to prosecute local public official.

My wife, Jeri and I recently celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary. We have two sons growing into manhood: Andrew, age twenty three (who is currently attending Loyola Law School) and Christopher (a s e n i o r a t M i c h i g a n S t a t e Un i v e r s i t y ), age t w e n t y o n e and a daughter, Julia, age s i x t e e n . I enjoy renovating my home and restoring automobiles. I participate in a variety of sports and perform, occasionally, in the community theater where I also sit on the Board of Directors. I lead a local blues band. I am active at St. Joseph’s Church in Mapleton where I sit on the Board of Trustees and participate as cantor.
