I have always worked in the litigation department of the firms I have been employed with. The basic duties I undertook included the typing of general correspondence, filing, preparation of Notes on Title, cashroom credits and debits, the preparation, typing and issuing of invoices including private clients and Legal Aid accounts. As a secretary/PA I undertook a substantial amount of personal duties for my employer including arranging hotel accommodation, travel arrangements, arranging of meetings etc.

During my employment as a Court Runner I attended both the Court of Session and Sheriff Court. I covered Bail Appeals and Motion Roll Hearings in attendance with Counsel. I carried out the necessary clerical duties at the General Department including lodging productions, obtaining interlocutors etc. I also arranged Proofs and Consultations with Counsel at the Advocates’ Clerks Office.

As a secretary/PA I have covered Sheriff Court and Court of Session including reparation, matrimonial, interdicts, Petitions etc and the preparation of Legal Aid applications where appropriate.

In June 1997 I obtained a Certificate in Performance in Civil Court Work from the University of Strathclyde. I then held the position of paralegal and had my own work load which included the drafting and lodging of Caveats, the drafting etc. of Letters of Inhibition, Sheriff Court debt recovery (Small Claims, Summary Cause and Ordinary actions) up to and including the obtaining of Decree and the enforcement of same, sequestrations, Simplified Divorce actions and Short Assured Tenancy repossession actions.

In addition, I covered the repossession department. This involved the drafting and service of Notices of Default, Calling Up Notices, Section 20 and Section 24 proceedings. I dealt with matters up to obtaining Decree and arranging the eviction. I dealt with borrowers both in person and on the telephone and monitored any repayment arrangements using the online computer system of the client.

In March 2001 I obtained a Paralegal Qualification in Conveyancing Practice. This has assisted me in being able to understand the title to a property and the general conveyancing procedure.

My work involves a substantial amount of unsupervised work. I am responsible for making decisions regarding the enforcement of Decrees obtained. There is substantial telephone contact both with clients and with debtors. I am able to work on my own initiative and thrive on a busy working schedule.

My present workload consists of both commercial and consumer debt recovery. I deal with a busy workload for many clients. I undertake the raising of the action up to Decree and the enforcement thereafter including attachment, arrestments, earnings arrestment etc. I am also responsible for the raising of actions of sequestration and liquidation including the service of Statutory Demands for Payment and Winding Up Petitions.

I am experienced in Case Management systems and currently use Solcase, which is also available online to clients, Visualfiles, Lawsoft and Carpe Diem.
