Career History

From October 2014 Self Employed/Freelance Surveyor (Part Time Role)

Project managed important planning application processes for clients (i.e. mineral extraction and factory extension developments) to successful outcome – including negotiation of separate S106 planning agreements. Participated in site assessments on existing and possible new quarry sites - as part of a possible corporate takeover.

July 2004 – September 2014 Land and Mineral Management Ltd.

Consultant and Property Manager – fulfilling a new south east role within an existing Somerset based practice. To develop a new client base providing specialist surveying, planning and land management services to industry, land owners and local authorities – client base achieved in all three areas since 2004 – profile and achievements listed above. Duties included:-

To provide property, planning and environmental solutions for existing/new clients;

To ensure accurate pro-active and timely advice in providing these solutions in order to expedite each project and identify likely implications for property management/acquisition/disposal processes;

To identify other project stakeholders and their requirements to reduce financial risks and/or project sensitivities - thereby optimizing successful project pathways;

To provide cost estimates and forecasts for the clients’ budgetary requirements in order to demonstrate effective control of expenditure;

Be involved in the identification of property, planning and environmental related issues and the resolution of such concerns in order to avoid unnecessary delays to the delivery of projects;

Where appropriate, provide valuation advice and lead negotiations in respect of higher value or complex agreements and other property transactions;

To identify potential need for other professional expertise and prepare/agree sound briefs accordingly and subsequently project manage those experts.

Oct 1990 – July 2004 Hanson Quarry Products Europe Ltd - Senior Estates Surveyor

Duties included management, acquisition and disposal of company properties, new developments and all planning related activities to support existing and future operations. Existing area portfolio then valued at over £50 million – including significant farmland areas (over 3,000 acres), industrial properties, quarries, rail depots, marine wharves, landfill/reclamation sites and related ancillary buildings, workshops, offices, residential properties and several retained rights/options to secure future land banks.

July 1988 - Sept 1990 Marley Properties Ltd - Company Surveyor

Duties included management, acquisition and disposal of company properties and development of new sites - including factories, industrial properties, development of new manufacturing facilities and offices.

Dec 1985 - Jun 1988 ARC Ltd.

Senior Surveyor; involved in general property management across assets such as farms, industrial properties, quarries and waste disposal sites, marine wharfs and railway depots.

March 1979 – Dec 1985 Cory Environmental Ltd

Surveyor and temporary assistant quarry manager, employed on new company development projects.

Qualifications & Training

Professional Member Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) – since 1981.

RICS accredited Polytechnic Associateship in Minerals Surveying – Sheffield Polytechnic. Course included industrial training year completed in some gold mines in South Africa (1976/7) and summer holiday experience (1975) gained within UK Mineral Valuers office in London.

Diploma in Management Studies – Greenwich University

Completed modules in Accounting, Finance, Project Management, Market Research etc.
