Relief charge RN for a 12 beds surgical intensive critical care unit (SICU), organize workflow, prioritize patients care while arranging nursing assignments to fit the need of the unit and maintain optimum productivity.
Assesses, plan and evaluate the needs of critically ill patients with various diagnosis such as septic shock, respiratory failure, hypertensive crisis, acute pancreatitis, pneumonia, accidental/voluntary overdose patients needing medical management, alcohol intoxicated patients, liver failure/cirrhosis, diabetic crisis diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and hyperosmolar hyperglycemic nonketotic syndrome (HHNK), diabetic coma, obstructed/perforated bowels with open abdomen, acute and chronic kidney disease/injury.
Carry out physician orders while performing bedside procedures, or through electronic medical record.
Administer and titrate prescribed critical care drips such as Levophed, Vasopressin, Nipride, Amiodarone, Epinephrine, Insulin, Cardene, Heparin, and monitor accompanying laboratory data.
Manage ventilators’ supported patients, recover neurosurgical patients, traumas, spinal cord surgery. such as ventilator to support breathing, Vigileo to monitor cardiac output and assess for volume status so treatment can be initiated, arterial line for accurate monitoring of unstable blood pressure. Ventriculostomy care of post craniotomy/craniectomy, monitoring of intracranial pressure (ICP) patients. Bedside monitoring and interpretation of vital signs.
